Swapping PCM's?

My buddy is getting a 2002 Z28 M6. He wants an automatic, and I of course want a manual.......so we are talking about swapping our trannies. Is this going to be a nightmare? Can we just swap PCM's. My car is a '99. I was told you could swap PCM's out of '99-'02, but I am skeptical of this. If we can't swap PCM's, how will his car react to getting an automatic when it was factory equipped with the 6-speed? Any input and ideas would be great.

since the 99 and 2002 cars are not the same in calibration, you will need to compensate for injector differences in a tune.

It would be easier for you 2 to have the pcm's reflashed with a M6 / A4 pcm of the same year of the vehicle. Unless you purchase a copy of hptuners and use that for the swap, since they offer 2 years.

How do you go about reflashing the PCM's? Who can do this?

I dont know if you might have a VATS(vehicle anti-theft system) issue also, prolly have to relearn it also.
Tuning it would be the best option, alot of sponsors here do that. Or you can get a HP tuner set up for your needed years 99/02?

vats is not PCM based on the f platform, is it just a simple 5volt 50hz square wave into the pcm. The BCM does the decoding of the key, and provides the enable signal.
