ABS inop on I have a 98 T/A. Back in May my diffrential broke. Ever since then the ABS and the brake light have been on. The mechanic replaced the rear sensor and tried resetting the computer but that did not help. He said I need to go to the dealer since he does not have all the software they have. Any ideas? |
4 some reason that same light went off when i installed my LT Headers, i still cant figure out y |
those codes are stored in the bcm not pcm. you need to find someone with a tech 2 (dealer). that can reset it i believe. |

Need more details about when the differential broke. What was changed/replaced? Is the system 3 or 4 channel? |
I had a Aurburn lsd put in and 3.73 gears installed. Did not have traction control. As far as 3 or 4 channel I am not sure. How can I tell? |
What was the original gear ratio? |

It happens also when I stop a little on the slow side. The brakes grind and the low trac light comes on too. The brakes themselves are good, just did them all the way around a few months ago. |
Don't know if this will help in your particular problem, but just something else to try for troubleshooting. A couple months ago, out of nowhere, my ABS INOP, BRAKE and one other light came on. For the most part, they stayed on constantly, but occassionally they would all either go off and stay off or sporadically do the on/off thing then stay off. Turned out to be a bad contact on the ground wire from the ABS unit. I didn't know what to look for, so it took an experienced mechanics with a tech2 to tell me my ABS ground wire needed to be relocated to a better ground location... lol Worth a shot. |
Without Traction Control, you have a 3 channel ABS system. Looks like you went from a 2 series carrier to a 3 series carrier with the gear and differential swap. When you change from a 2 series to a 3 series carrier on a 3 channel system, you have to change the reluctor ring on the carrier to the 3 series one. GM Part# 26029185. If whoever installed the gears just moved the 2 series ring to the 3 series carrier, it will not be positioned in the correct location for the sensor to read it. |
