Scenario: swapping PCM's

I have a friend who has Ed Wright programming in his SS. Both of our cars are 2000 M6's. He's going to trade his car in. Instead of sending his PCM back to Ed Wright to get it returned to stock, we thought we might swap them. My questions are as follows...

1. I assume the VIN # is stored in the PCM. What would the dealer do if the PCM VIN# and the car VIN # do not match. My car is out of warranty so I would not be going to the dealer. His car is still in warranty, which leads me to the next question.

2. Is the mileage stored in the dash? PCM? dash/PCM? If we swapped PCM's would his mileage show up on my car and vise versa. We might just go ahead and swap them to see what happens.

His Ed Wright PCM has !EGR, !AIR, raised rev (which means I'll have to keep careful eye on my shift light) but no tuning.

Any thoughts?

VIN is indeed stored in the PCM. At the dealership it'd probably make them go 'huh', but probably not much else. They probably wouldn't warranty the PCM if he ever had a problem, though.

As for mileage, it's in the dash computer.

As long as they're both 2000 M6's, probably not much to worry about.
