tuned 382 stroker, can't lean out?????

I just had my 99 382 Stroker tuned yesterday with a wideband and LS1 edit. I gained quite a bit but it wouldn't lean out after about 6k rpm's.

Here's my results:
First Pull:
424 RWHP
419 RWTQ

Best Pull:
441 RWHP
441 RWTQ

These are really good gains but I think there's still more left in it. The Fuel/Air ratio was around 12.6 from about 6k to the 6800 rev limiter, right where my peak HP appears. We repeatedly tried to lean it out but it would not budge at ALL.
Any ideas???? I'm also getting about 3 degrees of knock retard.

I should also mention that it was about 90 degrees and humid outside. Not the greatest conditions with a 1.04 correction factor. I've heard LS1's may run rich in humid weather???

430 to 450 RWHP is definitely in the realm of where I've researched such a stroker would be. I think it's doing great!

Even so, what are you using to tune it? It seems you should be able to lean or richen it if you like. The A/F ratio you quoted sounds safe, though.

Re: tuned 382 stroker, can't lean out?????

that's the thing. we are using LS1 edit and a wideband on the dyno to tune it. It's WON'T lean out. we decrease the numbers and it does NOTHING!!!! It adujusted fine up to about 6k rpms, then nothing. The A/F won't budge!!!???

12.6 is REALLY rich on this car. The black smoke bellows like hell out the back when it goes rich.

I agree 450ish is about right for my car. I should be there soon!!!

When you say "LEAN OUT", do you mean raise timing?

My PCM would not take any timing because it kept reading the Low Octane Spark table..

What steps (e.g. tables) did you take to lean it out?

Are your cruise LTRIMs positive? If so, the computer assumes you are lean and may defeat your attempts to lean the car out at WOT.

12.6 on the dyno is pretty good A/F

Ragtop is right,
You want cruise LTRIMS to be -2 to -4 on both banks and then look at adjusting the WOT on the dyno. 3 degrees of KR isnt good. Is it false knock or real knock from running lean/too much timing and the computer killing timing to bring it back inline? I would shoot for a safe 12.5:1 AF, 28-30 degrees of timing and no KR whatsoever.
Cheers,
Chris
ps- Good numbers BTW!

This is not my car, but I am having a similar problem...I have shifted the PE vs RPM values from ~1.19-1.25 all the way to .85 for the RPMs that I was tuning for and it resulted in virtually no change.

I am thinking that there is another table out there that is not present in LS1Edit...I think that this table has more of a bearing on WOT tuning then PE vs. RPM.

Ken, any thoughts on this?

What tables are you modifying?

Are you adjusting Injector Flow Rates and RPM Power Enrichment tables?

Hey guys,
I'm doing the tuning via LS1edit for him and really it gets about 29 degrees of timing despite the the KR. The knock retard hits 3 degrees briefly around 4500 then fades out in the upper rpms. The thing is we could get it to lean out everywhere but after 6000rpm. The cruise Lterms and all look good since we tuned that first. They read -3 to 0 mainly. I'm noticing that others are having this problem too and am curious to know why the car won't respond even to the attempts to lean it out. It can definitely use a leaner AF ratio since it is throwing black smoke past 6000rpm. The bottom RPMs sure liked the added tuning that we could adjust under 6000rpm going from 424rwhp and 419rwtq to 441rwhp and 441rwtq.

any ideas guys?
