Put SLP LT's on, now getting codes
 

Several weeks ago, SLP put their LT's on with RT Cats. Now I'm getting the codes, P0135 H025 Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1 and P1153 H025 Insufficient Switching Bank 2 Sensor 1. What exactly do these mean and is it something to call SLP about or what?

It happens. I have gotten the 135 before. Others have too. As far as i know, there is no fix.

I say call them, they should be able to help you. If you buy a product from a company, normally the company will help you out if problems arise.

P0135 occurs when the Driver side front O2 sensor does not heat up properly within a specified period of time. This may cause the sensor to report an abnormally lean condition on the driver side which causes the PCM to dump more fuel there to correct it. Use ATAP to monitor your Short and Long Term fuel trims along with your O2 sensors for both sides to watch whats happening.

When the PCM dumping more fuel on it's suspected lean condition still does not fix the problem (which probably is not a real problem or might be a header leak or failed O2 sensor), the PCM will report error P115x (are you sure you got bank 2 error and not bank1) which says that the long term fuel trims are not updating properly to the new learned condition spoted in the short term fuel trims.

In most cases, the P0135 error will occur when the car is running Off Road Pipes rather than cats. The reason being that the freer flowing exhaust removes the heat build up in front of the Cat where the front O2 sensor sits.

I drove my SLP LTs with cats for 5K miles and had no problems. As soon as we pulled the cats for ORPs I was running into P0135 within two weeks.

The things that SLP will be able to verify is that there are no header leaks causing the lean condition or cooling the air before it hits the sensor. They will need to make sure the Cat is properly positioned. They can also verify that none of the wiring is getting burned by the headers on the way to the O2 sensor and that the voltage looks good across the wiring extension.

Things that you can do would be to swap the O2 sensors or put in a new one to see if the problem goes away. You can also look for obvious heat damage to the wiring going to the sensor.

To elaborate on 2001-WS6's explanation: the heater circuit in the 02 sensor must maintain a certain temp. range in a certain amount of time in order to notify the PCM yada, yada, . . .

Bottom line: the headers move the sensors and/or change the surface temp. of the pipe which, in turn, f's with the heater circuit in the O2 sensor.

Fix: nope. Maybe with LS1 Edit when you delete the rear O2's it would solve the problem.

Otherwise, just keep clearing the codes with Atap.

I got mine to stop throwing codes. I disconnected the battery overnight, and before I connected it back up, I set the MAFT to 0's, so it wouldn't add or subtract fuel. Then I connected her back up, and let her idle for about 5 minutes without turning on any accessories or giving it any gas. This was back in April, still no codes. I also cleaned the all the connectors with contact cleaner to see if that helped.
