Do cammed 98's want LESS timing?

Recently installed a B1 cam in my 98.For ballpark tuning with Edit I used the stock PE fuel table & the hpp3 spark table. That gave me ~.900 - .920 O2's & 27.5* - 28* timimg @ WOT. The only problem is I'm getting significant knock retard when I never used to get it before the cam. This is NOT false knock. I'm about to pull 1* at a time until the knock retard goes away, but was just wondering if anyone else had this happen?

Do cammed 98's want less timimg than with just bolt ons?

Are you using the stock timing curve, hpp3 timimg curve, or a custom curve?
