Default Anyone else program their fans to stay on after the key is off?

I was messing with my HPT today and decided I'd try out the lil option to have your fans stay on after the key is turned off.

The temp for the fans to stay on after the key is turned to the off position was 235 degs originally and set to stay on for 150 seconds.

I adjusted it to 200 degs and left em to stay on for 150 seconds after shutdown. I figured i'd test it out and up the time if all works well.

Figured it would be a good method to cool the car at the track after a pass without resorting to wiring in a fan switch.

Anyone else do this? Any harm besided draining the battery a lil?

I had my car dyno tuned in the spring. The guy who did it set the low fan the same way you have yours. Since I had already installed a fan switch a few years ago, I still generally use the switch because it gives me more control.

Really is pretty slick for those who don't feel comfortable wiring up stuff...i'm colorblind so wiring is tricky for me.

This way the computer handles it for me

I have three cars setup for 200* and 60 seconds, one of them has been that way for about a year now with no problems.

Cool, then the car is staying like this for good. With the turbo underhood, this thing stays hot.

That's a good idea. What radiator/fan combo are you running? I run a little hot in stop/go traffic, hot days. I need something to cool her down.

I've been doing that for a long time. I have it set to come on at 190 for 5 minutes.

Glad i'm not the only one who likes this lil feature. I really didn't want to wire up the manual fan switch, too many switches, wires and gauges already

I going to up the amount of time it'll run now and lower the temp down to 190 also. 2 minutes just takes a bit of the heat out of the engine compartment.

FormulaFire, I run the stock radiator with FAL240 fans (pushers)

I will be going to a griffin radiator and a set of spal dual pullers.

As for on the road cooling, I have both my fans set to come on at 168 degs, they run all the time but it keeps the car cool(195 to 205 if I run into traffic). The fans have been on the car in this configuration for over 5 years. The turbo is really stretching the cooling ability of these fans so I'm going to the other fan/radiator set up.

Yup, all of my vehicles are set to 220 and 60 seconds. Just to keep the after-heat- soak to a minimum.
