Can't start the engine I have a 99 Z28. My wife drove the car and one evening and then parked it in the garage. The next morning when I tried to start it, all the instrument lights came on and the guages including tach & speedo went up and down. It is acting like the security system is preventing a start. I used both pass keys for the car but had the same result. Someone told me to take out the pcm bat and the pcm ign fuses and put them back in after 10 minutes but this did nothing. I even unhooked the battery for a while and still had the same result. Can anyone help? Thanks! |
Since you have a '99 I'd suspect low battery voltage. If the battery connections are fine have it load tested. If that's not it there's a TSB for the '99 gauge clusters, but most likely just the battery. |
is the security light turning on? See if you can get someone to scan there car... prolly setting a security code If neither key worked, then a common problem is the little wires inside the ignition switch break (which prevents the passkey II resistance from being passed to the BCM) Does the engine crank even? |
I am taking the battery up to test it and get a new one if needed. I'll let you know if it works. Also, the security light came on for a few seconds, but so does every other light. Thanks! |
The battery was the problem. Works fine now. I've never seen a car react the way this one did to a bad battery with the guages going crazy. Thanks very much for the help. |
