Widebands and TD's...how many?

I saw something about this in the past here, but wanted to ask again for the sake of it...

If you have a TD system, and run a wideband, is it safer/smarter to run one for each pipe....or will one be sufficient enough.

While some may say dont waste your money on two, can't it be argued that if there is a problem with anything on the unmonitored pipe that it could be a problem?

I mean, its like only havgin 50% of your engine monitored...correct?

I know buying two is $$ and maybe a waste, BUT, better safe than sorry, right?
THANKS :drive:

I have one, and its fine. two is nicer though. FAST makes a dual wideband system, it expensive but nice.

From a tuning standpoint you can't tune each bank independant from each other with a OEM PCM.

Just get a single and put the WB 02 at around the 3 or 9 oclock position on either side close to where the header connects to the Y-Pipe or TD.

You could stick the wideband right in the middle of the X

Now that is an idea I did not think of....but isnt the x a little too far from the headers for accurate readings

Thanks Bill, thatll probably be what I do...

One in the crossover. Widebands make / control their
own heat and too close-in is worse than further back,
you can get faults or lose accuracy if overheated.

i put mine in the x-pipe of the duals. just make sure you dont install it close to the bottom of the x as water will gather and cause problems with the bung.

Widebands make enough heat on their own.

ok to throw in another question in the mix, if you put the WB at the X, and say you have the TSP Td that cuts off farly quickly, will that be bad? i've read on their installation instructions to not leave the sensor to close to the tail pipes or else it wont give you a true reading, so would the TD's be long enough (tail pipe wise) to give you an accurate reading?

u don't have to be able to monitor both banks at a time, u can only edit both together. u can have a bung in each side and sometimes switch to make sure they are both sides are workin properly.

Sorry for hijacking this post...

But can you run (and is it prefered) to run the engine off of the wideband input and forget about the OEM naroowband o2 sensors?

In other words, can we do away with the old o2's and let the PCM make it's trim adjustments off of the wideband?

Thanks!

you mean like this? https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagnostics-tuning/419524-heres-how-wire-lc1-work-wideband-narrowband-same-time.html

Couldnt you use two histograms and average them together to create one AFR Error % Table?

I have a spreadsheet I made that you can use to run two widebands, or to just average two different logs together...CLICK HERE for the spreadsheet
