Default P0343 frustrated

Car died the other day yada yada. changed fuel filter and it started up again. Did a scan and got a p0343, changed the cam position sensor. No luck, still get it. Crossed over the gray and red wires in the extension harness; still no luck. With the wires in either direction the code reads and the tach does not work. I have searched the forums and there seems to be a consesus that low voltage can cause the tach problem. However, could this also be a root cause of the cam position sensor problem? I'm going to change all grounds and the hot leads from the battery. Any other suggestions are welcome. also this is an LS2 in a 99 camaro.

This may be a stupid question, but did you use the ls2 cam sprocket on the install?

No, its not a stupid question. I thought that maybee I had put the sprocket on backwards, so I pulled the front cover to verify. Sure enough it's an LS2 sprocket and its on correctly.

Test continuity on the extension? Burned wire somewhere?
