Main Volumetric Efficiency Table - What's it do??

Been trying to get my hot start idle issues nailed down, and I've seen several references to multiplying this table by 160%; but before I do that, I'd kinda like to know why I'm doing it. :D

Any help would be appreciated!

TIA. :hail:

OK read this thread and it should make sense.Remember increasing the VE table (*> 100%) increases fuel at selected RPM. Whereas reducing the VE table (*< 100%)reduces fueling. Here you go VE THREAD - CAMAROHOLIC
Good Luck!

Seems that the KEY is diagnosis of course. This entails monitoring injector pulsewidth at start up and warm idle ...assuming you have a decent idle.

JUST MULTIPLIED MY 01 Z-28 BY 60% 400-1200, AND LOADED IN CAR, IT MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. I'VE BENN FIGHTING THE POOR START FOR A MONTH, THANKS FOR THE HELP. I HAVE A 561 LIFT CAM WITH GTP STAGE 2 HEADS AND LONG TUBE HEADERS, NO CATS OR REAR O2S.
WILL THIS ALSO LEAN IT OUT AND MAKE IT QUIT BURNING OIL AT IDLE WHEN HOT.
AGAIN, THANKS FOR THE HELP,
ROBERT

WORKS GREAT SO FAR AND QUIT SMOKING AT IDLE WHEN HOT.

You're welcome Guys. Not sure why a VE change would effect the idle fueling when "hot". Is the car closed loop, I mean are you sure it's cycled into closed loop? The VE leaning would reduce idle richness (black smoke)....But that theoretically should only happen at initial (open loop) startup.??Maybe one of the GURUs will chime in (HINT!)

You want to multiply by 0.6 not 1.6; the hot start problem is caused by being too rich on hot starts with a big cam; so multipling by 1.6 would make it worse.

Re: Main Volumetric Efficiency Table - What's it do??

CAMAROHOLIC, is the MAN!

I have had this exact same problem... come out of grocery store or finish pumping some gas and fire it up. Either I'd have to wait almost a minute or I had to hold the brake and accelerator as I put it in gear and moved off.

I made the adjustment exactly as CAMAROHOLIC described and VOLIA! EURIKA! Whatever! It WORKED like MAGIC! :D
