Yes it is done without a roadrunner, the poster above who keep sgoing on about how you cannot switch tunes on the fly is incorrect. As far as i know ONLY Efi live can do this, but to say you cannot switch tunes on teh fly is incorrect. All that you have to do once its set up is flip a switch, and it can be odne on a stock PCM while it is running

not that im going to be getting a tuner anytime soon because i have to fix my problems first, but, is there a button that you push to change it or do you have to tune it with a tuner every time you want it to change?

With EFI Live custon operating system number 5 the tune will change fuel and timing (that you set in the software) when ground is applied to a pin on the PCM that is normally not used. So basically run a ground through a switch to the pcm, flip the switch and tune changes

We have set these up for various things, number 1 use beeing nitrous, can have a maxx effert motor tune, and flip a switch to pull timing and add fuel for spray.

Also can use it as a Valet, flip the switch and detune your car so nobody can drive it hard (IE valet parkers, service stations etc)

Could be used to set up a lean cruise for fuel mileage, basically it can do whatever you want, our next experiment is going to be making flame throwers on and old school hot rod that has a LS1 swapped in it

Well, if you want to get nitpicky about it, you can change **** on the fly with HPTuners as well, but what you guys are talking about is something WAY more than a plug and play option the original poster is thinking about. Custom OS's and extra wiring is a bit more involved than plugging something in to the OBDII port, sitting it on your dash, and turning *****.

The diesel guys can switch tunes on the fly, but you're right gas-n-diesel is like apples-n-spiders

As far as the learning curve goes, learning to tune is one curve, learning a software is another. The EFILive and RR make the learning-to-tune curve a lot less steep. Besides, new guys to the tuning world have it a lot better these days - mostly because of old farts like us

The big bucks thing is relative as well. I held off on the RR for a long time due to the price, but after I took the plunge, I found it paid for itself in about 15 minutes. If I had it all to do over again, I would have bought the RR on day 1.

RR is road runner, basically an emulator that is inside of a lsx pcm.

They are worth thier weight in gold, I have both a 99 and a 98, both purchased first day or before they were availble.

The live tuning is great, I have gone much farther into trying to get this a reality, but stopped when craig brough his unit to market.
