Default What would cause guages to spike and trip to reset...

One of my buddies has a 99 TA that had a motor replaced and since he has had issues when he starts the cars. When the key is in the ON positino all is fine but when he clicks the crank the guages spike and the trip odometer resets back to 0.

Bad connection somewhere. Most likely the grounds in the back of the head?
I know you know where they are, but if you're gonna be looking at it for him, let me know and I'll get ya the ALLDATA wiring diagrams if you need them.
PS, any updates on the beast?

Could be something as simple as low battery voltage too - there was a TSB issued for this in the '99 cars.

Yes, replacing the battery (which was seemingly fine for months while I had the issue) cured it on my 99 Z28.

Ditto... mine does this when I don't drive it for a few weeks.
