110 OCTANE RUINED O2'S?

I WENT TO THE TRACK LAST NIGHT AND WAS A LITTLE LOW ON FUEL. SO I ADDED THREE GALLONS OF 110 OCTANE TO ABOUT AN EIGHTH OF A GALLON OF FUEL. I RAN THE CAR FOR ABOUT 9 PASSES. ON THE DRIVE HOME I THREW AN SES LIGHT. SO TELL ME, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I BURNT UP MY O2'S BY ADDING 110 OCTANE RACE FUEL?
THANKS,
B.J.

Well whats the SES light for? pull the code....until you know what the code is for its kind of a waste to have people guessing what they think it is.

Consider them toast and buy new ones. I did the same exact thing and burned them up, I put new ones on and the car was back to normal.

The lead in race fuel will destroy O2 sensors...

well first off, do you know what the SES light is.....it could be anything....

now...if you used leaded fuel, then you screwed up big time.....(I feel for you....)

to all:

DO NOT use leaded fuel in fuel injected (O2 sensor) cars....the lead coats the internals of the sensor and scraps it....(like many....I leaned the hard way....)

if its unleaded, then no....its not the fuel.....higher "octane" fuel does not cause problems (other than perhaps cutting hp due to TOO MUCH octane....).

:)

Heated o2 sensors last a long time with leaded gas. I had one in my turbo buick and it never died.

I WORK AT AUTOZONE PART TIME. I WENT TO WORK AND PULLED THE CODE AND IT WAS BANK 1, THE FIRST O2 BEFORE THE CAT. SO YEAH, I GUESS I DID BURN UP THE O2 SENSORS. MY CAR HAS ONLY 12,000 MILES ON IT. THE FACTORY SHOULD COVER THIS SHOULDN'T THEY? ANYHOW, I APPRECIATE THEY HELP

By the way, leaded fuel also destroys catalytic converters.

Leaded gas will lacquer up our 02's in a hurry.

You might try removing them and burning off the white crap with a blow torch.

When they get lacquered up they start switching back and forth really slow.

HOWS IT GOIN' JOHN? THANKS FOR THE HELP MAN. I HEARD THAT BLOW TORCH THING FROM A FRIEND AT FIRESTONE HERE IN SHREVEPORT, La.. ANYHOW, IM REALLY NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE CODES BECAUSE I FIGURED IF IM GOING TO HAVE TO BY NEW 02'S AND NEW CATS, I MIGHT AS WELL GO AHEAD AND SPEND A LITTLE SAVINGS ON LT HOOKERS AND OFF ROAD Y. WHAT DO YA THINK? GOOD THINKING HUH? LOL! ANYHOW, I MAY NOT GO WITH THE OFF ROAD Y AND USE THE X-PIPE SET UP. IF I DO, IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE BORLA EXAUST THAT I HAVE ON THE CAR NOW? IT HAS ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON IT AND I WILL LET IT GO FOR A GOOD PRICE. MAIL ME IF INTERESTED!
THANKS AGAIN,
B.J.
P.S. I DONT REALLY CARE FOR SMART ASSES BINKSZ06!

Re: 110 OCTANE RUINED O2'S?

Leaded gas will contaminate your O2s. This lead glazes them and is difficult to detect visually.

But, other times it is due to Silica. The sand like particles embed in the molecules of the O2 sensor element and plug up the surface. The sensor will have a whitish appearance if this is the case. Silica contamination can come from fuel. Some companies use silicone to raise the octane rating. It can also come from lubricants used to install hoses and fittings and from RTV silicon gasket materials.
