autotap-are timing advance readings less any knock retard?

Guys, I'm still trying to figure things out here. Please bear with me while I try to become a non-newbie. I always do a search before I post, but I was unable to turn up anything on this.

When I log autotap readings, are the ignition timing advance numbers before or after knock retard has been subtracted? For example, if it's showing 25.5 degrees of timing advance and 3 degrees of knock retard, does that mean I'm really only getting 22.5 degrees of timing advance?

The total timing will show on A-tap.Meaning if it shows 25degree's of timing and 3 degree's of knock that the total timing that it is suppose to be is 28degree's.
Timing shows what the engine is getting total.

As Slowhawk says spark advance is the advance that is applied to the final spark delivery. You can see how the advance drops when the PCM applies knock retard in this chart
