Default 1999 ta trouble code p1153 help please!!!

Can someone please help me my 1999 transam Has a code p1153 Bank 2 sensor 1 (HO2S21) insufficient switching. I bought this car off my sister she got it in her devorce. Her exhusband put headers on it and not sure what else. I am not sure if he did not maybe hook some thing back up or did something wrong. I cant very well call him cause I have his old car. It has 85,000 miles. It runs strong. The service engine light stays on. It smells like it is running rich. If some one could point me in the right direction I would be greatful. Thank you for your time.

PO153 oxygen sensor circuit, slow response (pre-converter sensor, right bank) you could switch the left & right bank pre-converter oxygen sensor and see if the problem moves to the other bank. Then you would know that the oxygen sensor is bad or you could just get a new one and replace it. I have always just replaced both banks when one goes bad. I have long tune headers and no converters, which means I don't have any post converter oxygen sensors. I have sims where the post converter oxygen sensors belong. Which I think have been tuned out. Hope this helps

Although I’ve never had this problem, I’ve seen it discussed here many times. Installing headers reduces the exhaust temperature and the O2 sensors have difficulty getting to operating temps.

If this is your issue, Bosch 13111 O2 sensors have a higher wattage heater. Many guys have used this with good results. It also has a longer cable.

When I put my long tubes on my Formula; I got the same code, but both O2's were throwing codes. Had to have mine tuned to out.
