No silicone bead on cometics. They do have a coating, but I have yet to see a silicone bead.

Heads were recently milled, but the block is a short suspect right now. We shall see

hmm, most mls gaskets especially head gaskets get a coating of silicone sprayed over to help cold sealing. however if the RA isnt right they will slip and cause a leak. Other head gaskets that have a colored line have a embedded silicone line and then are sprayed with the silicone coating.

Did you change the head bolts? If they were torque to yield they might be stretched and are not applying the proper load.

The gaskets you posted on the last picture.....are you sure they are for a 3800 and from cometic?

Project382, it might be the RA, but many people in the 3800 community have issues with them even after properly treating the heads and blocks. It is something else that guys have to do in the Grand National community too. Must be something with some of the similar architecture.

I am using ARP head studs.

And the gaskets are the sprayed layers, there aren't any silicone beads at all on mine. They're from Cometic. I pulled the new ones apart and sprayed them with copper spray after cleaning them. They were FILTHY!

And John, those aren't 3800 gaskets by any means, coolant holes are in the wrong places.

No those are not 3800 gaskets. I just put up examples of the silicone John was talking about, and why it was there so you dont have to spray copper gasket sealer on MLS gaskets. In fact I have had many customers blow head gaskets after applying copper sealant. I think the top one was a 6.0L Powerstroke and I cant remember what the bottom one was. I was just trying to show examples the silicone coating. Cometic should use a clear silicone coating, I would find it hard to believe they dont use any.

But good luck The build looks sweet.

Did some data logging today. Car needed more fuel on the trims, so I adjusted that and will see what it does tomorrow. Open headers + turndown extensions right below your seat == threshold damage. And I haven't even gone WOT nor tapped redline yet

13.8 Is a reasonable number, especially on the regular off the shelf grinds. Picking up 2 seconds or more in the 1/4 over stock with a cam only is a vast improvement in any bracket.

Would be very thrilled to see 13's at our altitude.

Thanks, one of the guys at the shop I frequent was under his corvette and heard me pull up (exhaust on). I walk in and then he sees the car and was like, "Oh, I thought a diesel had pulled up."

He is DDing it now. Tuning a little. The V6 are a little finiky when it comes to tuning. So you have to tune a little and drive alot. So that is the process right now.

Hah, just saw this thread was thinking of updating it.

Yes, this car has been a bit moody, little things that just irk me lol! Waiting on the semester to wrap up so I can have time to install the LS6 injectors as the current stockers (19lb/hr.) just won't cut it.
