I was wondering what is the factory top speed of a base ls1 trans am equipped with an A4 and 3.23 gear ratio? How about 2.73 equipped cars? Thank you.

well I almost buried my speedo buried with a hypertech tune and a air intake, 155ish maybe a little under, (Tough to c what you are doing going that fast) wasn't totally buried with my stock gears. Now more buried HEHE.

The stock limiter is 155mph. So it won't go faster than that without taking that out of the tune.

I know that on 3.42's, the transmission maxes out at 240 but these cars don't have near enough horsepower to push it that far. Idk about with the other gear ratios though.

C&D hit the factory speed limiter at 162 MPH in a '99 30th WS6 Vert M6 in 5th gear (and the identical drivetrain in an SS in the same test hit the aero wall at 158). Either the WS6 has better aerodynamics than the SS (doubtful), or the "Ram Air" is more efficient than the SS hood at 150+ MPH.

The factory speed limiter was set according to the factory tire speed rating. If you didn't have Z-rated tires, the limiter was set lower than 162 (I can't remember the combinations for A4s).

If you have Z rated tires, the limiter is 160 for F bods. Non Z rated tire F bods were limited at 118. All this info comes directly from saved files of stock cars from my HP Tuners software.

162 mph is were they are limited.

The top speed is roughly where your speedometer ends. Those with the 155 speedo, the speedo actually ends at 162ish.

My buddy says 186 with out the limiter lol. I say 163 max.

I've taken her to the max when she was stock. Not sure what the speed was but I held it for a few minutes. Yea, uuuummmm, when the A-Pilars vibrate like that when your topping out you can't help but wonder how bad it would suck if you flipped at those speeds. lol

I read and heard 162 factory, did that with my stock 2.73 fior about 20-30 seconds after looking down and seeing I was past the 155 mark. Changed to 3.42s and haven't been in the right place\time to see what I get to. Added lid\headers\stall\gears\tune since the 160+ ride.
I will 1 day when the time\place is right see if I can get there again.

theres a video of a lingenfelter firebird doing a top speed run for car and driver or motor trend. one of those. it stopped at 195. the driver said it was comfortable and easy to control at that speed.

personally, something isnt right about that last comment.

when I still had the 3.23 stockers mine hit about 160, then backed out due to the road starting to get iffy. I'm sure even with 3.73 gears it'll still go that fast now.
