K&N with Regular Hood?

K&N with Regular Hood?
With the holiday season, I can't really afford to purchase a full Ram Air hood. Is it still beneficial for me to purchase a K&N filter for my 00' Trans AM with the regular hood to add some performance (There is just a Fram filter on it right now)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

good question! lol ! I have one installed. My motor was stock, but then I added ls6 intake w/ported throttle body, K&N cold air kit, LT headers, MF cat back (minus the cats). Since I added all mods at once, I can't say the added HP is due to the K&N kit! lol. I also have the regualr T/A hood on my 98'

the only difference between a stock intake and ram-air intake is the air box stands off a little higher. I'm not disputing that a ram-air hood breaths slightly better, but there's really not much difference.
Point being, it breaths well enough. now as to say K&N, Paper filter, or what have you... you might as well ask coke or pepsi.
I prefer coke.

Doesn't matter if you have a K&N filter or paper. You will barely notice the performance gain from an LS6 intake or Lid, let alone a filter.
And the WS6 Ram Air hood does well performance wise if you take out the baffles and seal the hood to the air box with weather stripping. Here is mine...

Before I got my 6LE airbox, I ran a K&N with a Fast Toys Ram Air kit. I did notice a difference with the FTRA, but none with the K&N. I will say I save $$ with the re-usable filter. I bought two used for $40 and have not paid for another air filter in 4 years.

Look up the Free Ram Air Mod, that'll help you the most on the highway. As for the filter, the K&N can be cleaned and reused and will save you some in the long run as already stated. On a side note, the "Rain Baffles" can be removed from the WS6 hood to open up the flow. Best performance gain is by changing the lid removing the silencer.
