I had often wondered if there were several cars built after the 2002 line was suppose to end and since there wasn't going to be a 2003 model, if they were badged as 2002's. There is contradictory information for example that a few over 12,000 TA's were built, and another reference to a few over 14k being built. I forget the exact numbers, maybe someone has an accurate build list.

Anyway, my WS6 was built in June 2002, vin ending in 1651xx. Looks like about 7k short of the F-body end of line.

not to get off topic, but this makes me wonder what trans ams would be like now a days if production never stopped, they were ahead of their time back in 2002 in my opinion, imagine what they'd be like now.

Default 2003 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?

After it was officially announced that the 2002 model year would be the last for the Firebird and the Camaro, GM gave both Pontiac and Chevrolet a "going-away-gift" They each got to make one last car. Pontiac was allowed to raid the parts bins of whatever they wanted and build what they thought could be the next generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Just like the 1969 Trans Am, being it's first year, the 2003 Trans Am - one and only one being made was white with blue stripes. It was featured in several magazines and also Maguiars, yes the car wax company, where it makes a brief appearance in a video about other one off's. Only one was made and it went to a GM museum. As far as i know it was never sold to any private individual, and hasn't even been registered. However it is "officially" a 2003 model Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

Also keep in mind that Trans Am Depot/Trans Am World wide has official licensing from GM to turn modern Camaros into Pontiac Firebird Trans Am's. That might be what your buddy is referring to. This can be done with any current Camaro. Maybe.

They would be just like a 5th generation Camaro with a few body modifications. 4th generation Trans Ams were still 98% Camaro. Pontiac was gone as a company and they are all just corporate GM builds. Sorry, but it is true.
