Default 1987 TA GTA cranks but doesnt fire

Ive parked my car for winter and occasionally started it and it turned over fine. I decided to replace the battery with a higher CA capacity. The car turns over but doesnt fire. What should I be looking for? There is gas in the car and I drove the car throughout the summer.

check the basics. fuel, spark.. TPI will have a scrader valve on driver side on intake you can poke the valve down, see if fuel comes out, hook up a fuel press gauge and crank it over, and or pull a spark plug, hook the wire back up and with the electrode touching a solid metal for a ground crank it over to see if yo have spark or weak or none.. listen with key on only to see if you hear the fuel pump priming. just the basics.. maybe yo have bad gas too?

I was told that it may be the coil. How do i test to see if thats defective? Would any coil replacement for the 87 TA 350 5.7 be okay?

you can try it, pass side back top of engine.. you can get a stock one cheap at the parts store or the street fire one for 35-40 bucks.. its made by MSD.. i still think you should do the checking first before spending money, but thats up to you. let us know what happens

I have a few ICM's laying around that have been tested on my 89 IROC. If you're interested let me know.

What do you want for it? Will it work for an 87 5.7 350?

Just to clarify, did you check to see if you were getting spark? Are we sure the issue is spark, not fuel?

The tank is 1/2 fuel of premium fuel and it worked a few months ago. For some reason it just stopped turning over. I need another body to check for spark. Do I just remove one plug from the coil and turn it over?
Thanks

If all the wires are good, which i bet they are and the battery is good ( 100% +ve on this) , then what? If I find that there is no spark, what should I look for given I have replaced almost everything that has to do with a spark. Are there any relays involved anywhere?

Could it be a faulty PCM or MAP sensor causing this? I am kinda shooting in the dark here. I dont want to spend $$$ on parts if I dont have to. How do you know if a PCM fails? Its just a computer box under the dash??

In those cars the PCM is under the dash on the passengers side. To check for spark, pull a spark plug and set it with a ground. Then turn the car over and see if your spark plug is firing.
Do you hear your fuel pump kick on when you turn the key on?

Okay I will pull a spark plug and touch it to the chassis of the car to see if I get spark. The fuel pump is working given that if I pump the gas pedal, I can smell gas. The sending unit and fiel pump were replaced in the fall.

Okay...I pulled one of the spark plugs out, touched it to the chassis and turned the car over. There was spark. Now what do I do? Any help appreciated. Thanks

You must not be getting enough fuel pressure. Get a can of carb cleaner and spray it into the intake tract and crank the car. If it runs for a second then you are not getting fuel.

Go and get a fuel pressure gauge from the store and screw it on the valve on the fuel rail and just turn the key on.

Do these 2 things in order first. Only do the second thing if the 1st thing does what I just said. Report back and let us know.

All we are trying to do here is find what of the 3 things an engine needs to run that you don't have .

1.Fuel
2.Spark
3.Air
