Default Is this a good deal?

1995 Firebird Formula with 100k on the clock...engine fully rebuilt with hot cam, ported heads and full bolt-ons. Cloth interior, t-tops, 6-speed, clean all around. The guy bought it in Toledo Ohio from a fella that needed to pinch it to buy a house. He lacks some of the rebuild paper work but can supply me with the other guy's number to get in contact with to get the rebuild info and all that jazz. The only thing I hate is the formula bumpers but I think down the road I will convert the front end to the LS1 style. Also he said the guy used all forged internals so it's boost and NOS ready. The asking price is $2,800. Worth the gamble?

Seems low and a decent deal, but I'm leery of breathed on engines. Maybe its fine, but if it's not it can be a pit. I guess if it's not your DD, and it's a toy it's ok. Did you make an offer?

ya I'm just worried that the guy that rebuilt the engine before this dude knew what he was doing. The guy that I'm buying it off of bought it because he got a deal on it and its been drivin maybe 1,000 miles, if that. I offered $2,500 and he said he could do that. I just need to wait on the guy to square up with me on the motorcycle I sold him.

Sounds like a good deal to me if the engine is ok.

He also informed me about a security system malfunction that doesn't allow the car to start sometimes...anyone know of anything like this and what I need to do to get that fixed?

Very easy fix...
On the key there's a resistor, you'll see it.. it's in that little black square.
Use an ohm meter to get the resistance...
Go to Radio Shack, buy a resistor that matches that resistance.
Take off two screws under your dash on the drivers side, find the right wire, splice in the resistor.
Problem solved... very easy fix.. and there's very detailed write-ups here and all over the internet. ( that's why I didn't go into much detail ).

$2500 is way cheap for that car, it costs a grand more than that to rebuild the engine. Sounds fishy to me, the guy who's selling it is probably tired of dealing with some problem he's not telling you about.
Everybody likes to have a hotrod but people are skittish of buying a car with internal engine mods.....kind of a catch 22.

exactly...Like I said this dude had it for less than 1,000 miles and the guy he bought it off of needed it gone to buy a house so it could very well be legit or it could be a lemon.

Thanks for all the input but the more i think about it the more I want an LS1 so I'm gonna hold out this summer and save my money up for one.
