Default Just bought 1997 Formula WS6/ WS9

Let me start by saying hello to all. This is my first post on this forum, however I've been silently perusing for a couple days. Just bought a 97 Firebird Formula on the 3rd of july with factory codes WS6 - WS9 - W55 - W66. This bird is in pretty good shape, but I bought it with plans to have her fully restored. She's takes her first trip to the shop tomorrow for a few upgrades.

Brought her to the shop this morning to find out she has a blown head gasket which is what I expected. 3 days and $1,700.00 later and she'll be good to go. I know this project will take some money, but this car has found it final resting place with me. I've been saving for nearly 3 years for this.

How do I post pics to the thread? I started an album but I guess that's only on my profile. How do I upload from a phone? I don't see an option too.

Upload it from your phone to your email. Then take the picture on your email and put it on a website that has a direct link feature. I use photobucket... Then you can use the direct link feature and put it on here. There might be an easier way to do it but this is how i do it.

Thats a little high for a headgasket change man. At that price you better be getting some worked over heads and arp head studs.

Update: the heads received a valve job and a new water pump was put on along with new hoses and belt and few other minor fixes such as the horn and lights. All for under what I thought it would cost. I'll post pics when I get it back today. Next comes interior work.

I'm trying to find out what gear rearend was in the 97 formula ws6 from the factory. Its a six speed if that matters. The one in mine now is not factory cuz the speedo reads about 12-13 mph faster. At 55 mph (tom-tom gps) the speedometer reads about 68. I read that rearend swaps were very common in these.

I believe the factory gears in your car were 3.42.

If you write down your rpm speed and the speed your traveling you can match it on the gear chart. You probably have 4.10s. There is other ways in doing it but you might find better luck posting this in the Gears & Axles section.
