Way too much mileage on everything, from every part of the body to the drivetrain.

Theres absolutely no way its worth trading for something with double the miles of your current car.

If you want a V8, just buy one w/ a V8, then you'll have $0 in conversion costs. "Converting" a V6 to a "Trans Am" is just plain silly, it will be worth less than either a V6 or a T/A.

If you are looking to put in a radical V8 and drivetrain to build a track-only race car, then it doesn't really matter what year or what is under the hood. Get the cheapest, straightest body / chassis you can find.

FYI, there were 38 BGM '99 T/A coupes built (zero T/A 'verts). Indeed, the rarest color on a '99 T/A. 4 Formulas, 42 Firebird coupes and 38 Firebird 'verts were also built in '99 w/ BGM.

Literally every other person who has posted about it has said otherwise so don't take it the wrong way if I'm skeptical.

I'd just buy a V8.
Yes, I know it's awesome to save money - but there are a lot of things to consider that can go wrong and add to the cost.

Just keep your v6 and save - or sell the v6 and buy a v8 car (when you've saved up the difference).

No offense taken. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions and skepticism, but they are not entitled to their own facts. And the fact is, your car is not the only one in the world of that color. I just figured you'd appreciate having the actual numbers rather than pure speculation. I guess I was wrong.

Save money, sell yours, buy a V8. All that money you save towards a V8 will probably end up going into your conversion under the "**** now this" section. What you will "save" is a lot of headaches and knuckle scars.

those of saying to just sell it and buy a V8 obviously haven't run the numbers, a HIGH mileage LS1 T/A is gonna run about 8k on the low end, his 3.4 with 110k might sell for 2-3k that leaves another 5-6k to get a high mileage LS1, if he straight trades for the 98 body (which I would) then an LM7 swap like here https://ls1tech.com/forums/pontiac-f...pics-info.html can be got for under 2k easily and another few hundred to replace all the gaskets and a grand for a new suspension (which both 3.4 and 3.8 need) and you have a much better condition car then the high mileage LS1 and at about 2k cheaper then the LS1 T/A which is plenty enough to cover the body pieces like T/A side skirts, rear bumper and hatch, sure not gonna be worth as much but you get the satisfaction of doing the whole car yourself and know how good a condition everything on the car is.

my car is for sell it has 103K miles needs new side skirt touch up paint job and a new power steering system all of which can be done under 1k maybe 1500 at most plus it has around 400rwhp (havent gotten it on the dyno) it runs good. I spent over 6k into the motor to fix the problems plus some upgrades and ive spent over 5k into the trans bc the 4L60e is junk. im selling it for 7k well below the average 9-10k that it goes for. The longer I keep it the more ima fix it and raise the price.

also I think there is something to be said for having v8 power with v6 insurance rates, especially for the under 25 crowd out there.
