The v6 trans has different input shafts and a few other things, the original ls1 4l60e had to be rebuild because of slipping clutches.

I had to change fuel lines yes, but I simply added a return line using a t block, just copying the v8 style.

I am using an ls1 pcm, it works just fine with my v8 f body harness.

TechCam beat me too it, thanks. And yes I passed inspection because they only do a visual. They made me add a cat and change my window tint. But as far as an engine swap texas doesn't check.

Thanks! did you get a v8 gauge cluster as well? Would i be better off looking for a 4l80 if I'm going to have to swap the tranny?

As far as I know, you should be able to keep your current gauges. Some people swap them over if they using the drivetrain from a donor car so they can more accurately keep track of the mileage (that's what my cousin did).

I used the stock cluster for a while and it worked just fine. Then I swapped in a v8 CAMARO cluster and had to remove the air bag light to turn it off.

The 4l60e is hit or miss depends on how you drive and what power you make. Many have done just fine with their stock trans. I have gone through two built units and a stock one, so I decided to t56 swap. Unfortunately still having problems with that. It's all about the builder is all I learned.

Would it be worth changing the 4l60E I have now in the v6 over to what you were saying over getting a whole new tranny?

If I get it rebuilt couldn't I just keep the funds for putting into the new one and convert the existing? an import shaft can't be too expensive and hard to install.

If you're just swapping in a mostly stock LS1, get a used auto from a V8 98-02 on here. They are much cheaper than a rebuild and will work fine for stock power.

I was sent a new t56 and got it working perfectly. Back on the road just need to tune for the reverse lockout and speedo now.

Hey! I have a 98 firebird with a 3.8L and want to swap a 5.3 in it. For now, I'm thinking stock and eventually build it up later on. What all is needed just to get it rolling while stock? Also what's an estimated price range for the parts?

Thanks for the heads up on mounting the alternator bracket. Looks like real nice work you did there.

Any fbody driveshaft will work. And as long as the years to the harness and car are the same then it's a bolt in swap, except the bank 2 wire mentioned in the thread.

Unless it's the crappy two-piece they used in early fourth-gen V6 cars.

Default 99 firebird lsx swap

I'm doing the same swap as you have and I have a question about the wiring did you have to run any extra wires on the harness? And what did you do about bypassing the security on the car?

I have to get a new k member but are $400-$670. I have read that an Ls1 k member would allow the 5.3 to bolt up to it. Is it possible to put a Camaro or firebird Ls1 k member into a 1994 firebird and what header would I need? Thanks
LS k-members bolt right in and since you're using the 5.3 and would have the LS k-member, any F-Body specific LS style header could be used.
