170,000 miles rebuild?

So I found this trans am on craigslist its an 01 ls1 of course and it has 170,000 miles on it its cheap very cheap for the condition which is immaculate. I was just wondering on the general wear of the engine with so many miles and what I would have to rebuild soon. So anybody know what to expect as far as engine parts and price it might need?

It depends on the maintenance performed on it and how well the car was taken care of. 170 k miles isn't that bad for an LS1 engine. Have a mechanic check it out and make sure you have extra money for repairs, because every used car will need something.

how cheap are we talking, should be in the 7-8k range with that mileage, also if the shocks and possibly springs haven't been replaced plan to do them, they start to get pretty bad at this mileage. is it auto or stick, if auto has the fluid changes (dropping the pan and changing filter and fluid) on the trans been done before?

Still got life left in it.

If you do decide to upgrade, then I'd think about freshening up the block, which isn't a big deal unless it's the piston O-rings.

Im talking 5k cheap and owner looks to be in a nice area and is trading for a family car so im guessing he was a car person and got a family and had to get rid of it and it looks to be in really nice shape.

At 198,000 miles, my '99 runs just fine. Original engine & trans. No oil burning, no noise. New rear because I wanted different gears.

Modern vehicles will run perfectly fine beyond 170k, given 2 things, maintenance was kept up and they were not abused. Being a ls1 fbody im sure its seen its share of WOT. If needed spend a little bit of cash to get a mechanic to look at it.

I wouldn't worry about it. My 98 Formula is fixing to roll over 170K and it's running fine. I crack open a lot of modern engines and I rarely see any kind of wear on the cylinders or valves.
