Default factory y-pipe??

I just picked up my first f-body, a '01 WS6 TA 6-spd. I'm happy with the sound of the stock exhaust, but I'm not too impressed with the oem "squashed" y-pipe. My question is, will the slp y-pipe make the car louder, or just improve breathing & horsepower? Thanks!!

Any aftermarket y-pipe is going to increase sound and power a little bit

With out the "squashed" section the factory y-pipe has, the sound will be a little different. Nothing drastic though. Note ground clearance will also change ever so slightly.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll plan on adding the slp pipe. That oem pipe just doesnt look "right" on a musclecar...

If you would ever consider getting headers, I would strongly recommend against getting that SLP y-pipe. It would be money just thrown away, as it will only fit with factory manifolds or shorty headers with cats in the OEM location.

I would get headers 2nd hand for cheap, and get the texas speed y pipe.

I installed that SLP 31035 Y pipe this past fall. Not sure how much performance increase it's worth, but the engine has a slightly nicer tone.

The only thing I didn't like about it was that it gets pretty close to the brake lines. I suspect that's why the factory pipe has the "squash" in the first place. Regardless, I feel much better about having and exhaust with round tubing.

Good info, thanks. Yeah, I really would prefer round tubing, especially directly off of the manifold/cats. I'm definitely not planning on headers, so thats not an issue. I'd hope the brake-lines wont be a problem, and a "nicer tone" would be a plus...btw, did it bolt right in, no problems??

I ran the SLP y-pipe (along with a loudmouth) on my '01 Z28 back in 2003. Fit was perfect. If I were never going to install long tubes then I'd certainly go with it again; however, I love my LT's

It's been known on here for a long time that the factory Y flows better than it looks and the SLP Y offers no performance benefit. But a guy might have other reasons for wanting one ...
