Default Bought a 98 Trans Am - where to buy new headlight gears?

Just picked up a 1998 Trans Am last week, love the car! It still turns heads just like my 00 WS6 did. I've been fixing up little things like brakes, tires, etc... and now I need headlight gears!

I searched and found out the grinding noise when I turn off the headlights is the gears, but I can't find where to buy them. I checked the WS6 store and didn't see anything there. i want to support this site and buy them from a sponsor here. Where can I buy some new gears?

Rock Auto has a set that are able to be opened easily ( the OEM ones are not meant to be opened up )and replace the plastic gear inside with a metal one so it never has to be changed again.

I got mine from "Rodney Dickman" (google Rodney Dickman headlight gear), IMO he has the best kit design, got both sides for 79 bucks and his kit includes a T-brace that prevents any possibility of the housing coming back apart if the epoxy fails (which was an issue for some people). That said if you have the cash there is a version of the motors sold by Advance Auto that has a couple of screws that allow access to the gear for easy replacement, but those go for more for 1 motor then the cost of both headlight metal gear replacement kits.

reposition your stock gear 180 degrees and add a wave washer and you'll be go to go.

I did the 180 rotate "fix" and within 10 cycles of raising/lowering they went out again, that's a stop gap measure till you can fix them right.

Guess I must be really lucky then because I rotated them when I started DDing the car back in August and they've been fine aside from when its below freezing outside.

Advanced Auto has remanufactured motors with a lifetime warranty as long as you own the car. I think they were around $55.

try 80 with a 20 dollar core (ontop of the 80) on the remans. If your gonna buy new motors you want the even more expensive (135 a piece) ones from them because they have a unscrewable cover to access the gear for easy replacement.

Daniels right on the price. I must have been thinking of the power window motors.
