Default Trans Am hesitation

I have a 2000 LS1 6 speed Trans Am with about 27,000 miles. I bought it a few months ago and it has a hesitation around 1800-2000 rpm. Goes away at WOT. Purchased the car from a friends mom and the car sat most of the time. Ive changed fuel filter, spark plugs, and the pcv valve, cleaned MAF sensor, and added BBK long tubes and ORY pipe. I see it seems to be a fairly common issue on here. But what else could i look into? I get a code for rear O2 sensors but that is most likely from the headers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same hesitation at 2,000 RPMS and went away above 3,000 RPMS, all after cleaning my MAF sensor. Ended up replacing the MAF and all is good again. I'd start there.

Hey Kaw, does your MAF still have the screen in it?

yes. it still has th screen on it. I am leaning towards it being bad because it seems to change after I clean it. Still does it, just at different RPM ranges

Do you have an oiled filter? If so, that should probably also go in the garbage.

What are the exact O2 sensor codes you are getting? Are you sure they are rears? (It's common to see front codes in conjunction with a bad MAF reading.)

I agree with this. I put a K&N filter in my car when I got it and cleaned it monthly and was very light on the oil, but it caused maf problems not too far down the road. Now I use wix. It flows well and is $13.

I'm not 100% sure what the code was. It's been a while since I had it hooked up. But I am planning on getting rid of the filter and getting a wix. I'm going to try swapping MAF sensors with my friends Camaro and see what I find out.

I love how the K&N gives a 3 hp gain in power at install and then takes away 200 hp when it fouls the MAF...

kaw395 - another thing to keep in mind is that cleaning will not give you instant results. After cleaning, you'll have to take the car for a drive at highway speeds to the PCM can go through the re-learn procedure.

I swapped out the MAF sensor out. Seems to have gone away. But I rechecked my SES light to find all the codes I figured where there (from long tunes and deleted EGR and AIR) but also had a P0300 Random misfire code. I cut the muffler off because I'm installing a cat back on it and took it for a ride. Would that cause the code to be thrown? From what I've read it could be anywhere from a sensor to a bad piston..... car has 27000 original miles. Would hope nothings wrong with the motor.

Once you get this hesitation issue fixed, I'd wipe the codes, do a re-learn and then go from there. The mix could be so far off, it could cause a misfire.

Alright. I cleaned the codes and I'll take it out later on. I think it was the MMAF sensor. I swapped them out and haven't noticed it. Thanks
