Default Performance Question?

Hello, im new to this message board and dont know to much about cars. I own a 1998 Firebird Formula that as of now has only one perfomance mod. Flowmaster muffler.

Heres the question, I have 1k to spend on upgrades for now so I was wondering what would be the best bang for my buck. I was looking at maybe new headers. Anything you guys could suggest would be appreciated. Thanks.

What type of tranny do you have? manual or auto? Best bang for the bucks I think will be Torque converter for an automatic car, heders and y-pipe, cat back exhaust, gear, cam, or nitrous.

Get a lid, headers, if it's an auto a torque converter with a stall in the neighborhood of 3200. Tires are good. If you are feeling daring you can get a taller rear end gear. You probably wouldn't have enough for all of these mods though, so you will have to choose which ones to do.

Breakdown of mod difference (estimated) on 1/4 times:
Good size Torque Converter (auto): .5
New clutch (stick): .3-.4
Exhaust: .1-.2 with Headers .2-.3
Lid: .1
Tires: (depending on rear end ratio) .3-.5
Tune: .1-.2 (auto)

Then there is Nitrous...100 shot: 1 second to 1.3 seconds

Those are just some of the more common things. With all bolt-ons (and I mean all of them) you could expect to hit around 360 to the wheels N/A. If you shop around you might be able to get all of those except for maybe one or two. Nothing major and your just about in Cobra (stock) territory.

get a lid
get rid of the flowmaster and get a more freeflowing exhaust (from headers out).
if your an A4 get a torque converter
maybe get an LS6 intake

i wouldnt get an ls6 intake until you needed it a little more. they are only worth like 10 hp on a stock engine, at most. i had a flowmaster on my t/a for a while but switched to an SLP LM. it flows a lot better and you can tell the difference, plus its a lot louder. personally id change your exhaust then get a new lid and a new air filter. free mods are good too..

There are lots of offerings. You would get the best advice on this subject in the Automatic Transmission section. They have a boatload of info to help you out. I believe Yank is the most trusted out of the bunch, but ask them and they will be sure to point you in the right direction.
