AC Compressor by-pass
I plan on getting a shorter serpentine belt and would like to by-pass the compressor completely. I know I need to change out the idler pulley from a smooth one to a grooved one.
will the grooved idler pulley from a V8 work on the V6 for this particular need?
I have a 2002 Firebird V6 - wanting to know if the 2002 V8 grooved pulley is a straight swap. (same dia., offset, alignment, etc..)
the attached image shows my plan:

Its the clutch bearing that is bad. I can get a new one for like $75. so, for a quick fix, i replaced the accessory pulley above the AC from a smooth pulley to a grooved pulley, remeasured and bought a new serpentine belt and all is good now. My buddy has an AC pump and all the associate stuff to do a complete AC recharge. I am going to save and get a new compressor assembly and accumulator and dryer (i think that's what its called). and replace it all.
