Besides the intake, the WS6 engine is the same as base, so I wouldn't worry about it too much

There is absolutely no different anything between a ws6 engine or regular firebird engine.

Hope for 241 heads and ls6 intake!

So to check:
ls6 intake, flat under portion of the intake manifold.
ls1 intake, bubbled shape under portion of the intake manifold

correct?

and to check for 241 heads, is there as stamp on the casting somewhere?

To check just google the stamp number on the intake in the middle of it.
241 heads will be stamped on the passenger end facing the front of car.

Ls6 intake will not have egr pipe

Intake is the same, everything is 100% the same as any other F-body V8 from the same model year.

The lower air box is different, but this is part of the radiator core support and not really part of the engine.

I am constantly impressed as the years go by. I have participated in numerous car forums over the past decade, with many cars, and this has to be #1.

Well, when I say intake, I am referring to the same thing as you, I would call what you're calling intake the intake manifold... So we're on the same page

"Intake" usually means intake manifold, or at least that's the most common application for the term in my 20+ years in this hobby. I guess one could argue that the air lid is a type of intake as well but I would call that a lid or air box, not an intake. Calling the lower air box an "intake" is misleading and can be quite confusing for those who may not know better - especially when speaking of the engine only, since the lower air box is actually part of the radiator core support and not an item that would typically come with a pull-out/drop-out engine swap.

Intake is what most youths call the air filter tubing/pathing. Talk to any of the older guys who have been doing this for a while and they'll think Intake Manifold instead of the air-filter tubing/housing setup.

OP is talking about buying an engine so he's probably referring to the manifold and maybe mistaking WS6 for LS6.

The best way to answer the question.

You will not ever be able to tell by looking at the engine if it came from a ws6. It could have come from a camaro, there is also no way to know.

And what everyone is trying to explain here is that there is only two "different" I use that term loosely, ls1 engines from 98-02.

98-00 will have an egr port in the intake manifold.
01-02 will have no port in the intake manifold
(Placement right after the throttle body)

01-02 came with a slightly less aggressive camshaft
But honestly the difference is not noticeable.
.03 lift less than a 2000 camshaft (something like that)

98 camaro and Pontiac ls1 came with slightly smaller piston skirts, but that's not even something you can see

That's pretty much it!

So the last two things I said basically mean nothing, all that matters is you have an ls1 from another ls1 car. That is it!

Is it possible the car is a 1998 that you're looking at buying?
