Default Power antenna

My son has a 2002 Trans Am WS-6. How can he disable the power antenna so it doesn't destroy itself going up when there is ice on the car ? I'm pretty sure when there is ice and snow on the car it's only a matter of time before it doesn't work at all. He wants the antenna to stay up so he can still listen to the radio. I'm hoping there is a fuse he can remove to get this done. Thanks

it definitely doesn't need to be up to get radio, i tried to replace my broken original with one off of ebay, it looked about the same, but i never could get it to go up and down well, so it stays down and works great. If you get into the area with the actual antenna, there's some wires running to the motor that you can cut (and later splice should you choose) to keep it from moving up and down

Thanks Jaxem. I knew cutting a wire would do it but I don't want to go that route, but thanks for the reply.

Not sure if the LS1 cars were any different in this aspect but you definitely don't need to cut anything, you can simply disconnect the wire back there.

Disconnected mine a while ago. It's where the spare tire is behind the panel. Disconnect it, and no more 90s power antenna.

Have you considered wiring in a small switch to raise it and lower it when you want to?

I put a small switch in my ashtray spliced in between the pink wire, see post #3 for wire location: https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...ml#post5923441

Turn the radio off, and listen to the car make music. That's what I've done for the last 10 years or so.
