New here with a few questions..
New to this forum, a buddy of mine was on here all the time up until he passed away. Anyway my questions are::
1) How do I know what generation car I have?
2) The oil pressure while sitting still is around 20 and goes up to 40 while driving, is that the normal range? Seems low to me.
3) Low coolant light is on sometimes and sometimes not, after replacing coolant sensor and looks to have plenty of coolant, what is a normal temp and when do the electric fans turn on?
4) I have an air bag and ABS inop light on.
This is on my sons 1994 trans am 5.7L with 123,000 miles automatic transmission.
Thanks guys, looking forward to the new forum.

1. It's a 4th gen. with an LT1 engine, which is predecessor to the LS1.
2. I believe this is normal in an LT1.
3. Dont know. My car has the the low coolant light on. I just make sure that the coolant level is fine.
4. Dont know.

2. My LT1 runs at a similar pressure with 10-30W
3. LT1 cars have the low coolant light on pretty frequently, the sensor gets gummed up or goes bad, it can often be cleaned, or just unplug the sensor and it will turn off, did you replace a coolant temp sensor (head or water pump), the level sensor is on the passenger side back of the radiator. Fans come on at some high temp like 210 if i remember right, i flashed my PCM to turn them on sooner
4. Rig up a cable and load scan9495 and get the codes to try to track down the exact problem...not much else i can say

my son bought the car from someone about three weeks ago. The guy had the receipts where he had the radiator, water pump, thermostat all replaced. I just replaced the coolant sensor last week. Yesterday when i was driving it, when i sat at a red light the rpm's would jump around like crazy. I think it needs a new cat as well, i can hear it rattleing around. Would that cause a surge in the rpm's? thanks guys for all you help....
