Default 98 Formula Firebird Motor

Hi! I am in need of help please!

So here is the story, long story short... Was at an auction a week ago and decided to bid on a 98 Formula Firebird as there were not many people there, I figured I would get a good deal on it. Well I did and ended up with the car at a great price.

We were told that that the motor was swapped out of a vet however I can not tell what motor is in my new hobby. I am attaching several photos but I am not sure if they will help. Can anyone assist please?

If you hear lots of 'ticking' it's still an LS1.
Sorry, couldn't resist. Looks like an LS1 anyway. I'll let the experts chime in.

Other than the air filter it looks like my LS1.

BTW, when he said ticking, they usually tick when they are cold.
Just start it cold, don't touch the throttle and they may tick after 2-3min.
Then stop.

A friend of mine has a 2002 vette, LS1 as you stated but the hp rating is 345hp, do you happen to know why it is so much more than my 2000 TA?

Intake, cam, exhaust or all of the above?
Are the heads the same?

About the only difference is the exhaust manifolds/exhaust . Other than they're basically the same engine, but GM couldn't be claiming the same HP as their top performance car, the Corvette

Though his 02 probably has an LS6 intake where the TA didn't get the LS6 intake until 2001

Pure politics (can't rate a F-body HP higher than the vette......even IF a bone stock '98 WS6 M6 rated at 320 HP laid down more RWHP than a bone stock '98 C5 M6 rated at 350 HP when dyno'd on the same day.......see vintage Hot Rod article for reference).

BTW, I thought all C5 LS1s were rated 350 HP?

Should be a good race, I've had a few TA's and Corvettes with LS engines.. But remember the vette weighs like 500 lbs less
