Something that will last a decent amount of time but good street performance.

I had the Nitto NT555 Extremes and they had fantastic grip on the street and would have lasted a long time on the street if I didn't AutoX and RR them They have a newer version now called the NT555 G2 which I'll probably be getting once I have to replaced these Extremes. The Bridgestone Potenza RE760 sport are good tires and should last you quite a bit of time. I had them on my old car and I feel grip was a bit better with the NT555s but I didn't have those tires long enough to see how long they would last. I feel goodyear and Michelin are just too pricy, I'm sure they perform well... but not for 20-50% more cost. If you have not already Tirerack gives pretty good reviews and comparison between tires for that size.

I have Cooper Zeon RS3-S on mine, pretty impressed with them though I don't drive mine in the rain so can't say how they would perform in the wet.

I have had great results using Yokohama S drives. Hook up decent, wear nicely, and reasonably priced.

I'm running RS3-A and even the all season version is very grippy. I'm setup for auto-x and there zeons definitely compliment a good handling car. Good in the rain too.

This was the best tire I ever owned. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Eagle+F1+GS-D3
I had them on my T/A but Goodyear stopped making them in my 16" size. The only tire I ever thought was close to this one was the Michelin Pilot Sport I had on an old air cooled 911. Incredible in all conditions. You'll have to check price. They are getting up there but still worth every dime.

I ran the Nitto NT555 Extremes for years for just street performance, and they were amazing. I just had to replace the first set due to dry rot after about 8 years. I now have the Nitto NT555 G2. (Next generation of the Extremes). Needless to say they are far far better. According to reviews and track tests, they are much better in both wet and dry conditions than the Extremes. I don't drive my bird in the rain though so I only have the dry road experience. Extremely impressed with the grip both in the turns and the acceleration grip is unreal. I also have the 275-40-17's, and I paid $800 for install, balance, and an alignment.

I agree on the GSD3's!! Great overall tire I used on my STi. It's different for the bird. I run Toyo R888's, but it never see's rain unless it's a total surprise.

I have BFG G-Sport Comp 2's, and they're a great all season tire. They grip great for spirited street driving, but I'll spin through first and part of second if I'm not careful.

I have a set of BFG Sport Comp 2's and I like them. They were cheap and they will grip pretty well on stock power.
