I'm about to buy a 96 or 97 Firehawk with the WS-6 package and supposedly a formula package as well from a coworker. Just wanted to know some details on them. I know they're pretty rare but not much else. If anyone has info let me know, thanks.
This car is so rare that it doesn't even exist. Seriously. There was no such thing as a WS6 Firehawk, not even in the LT1 years. The WS6 and Firehawk packages are mutually exclusive.
The WS6 package could be had on either Formula or Trans Am, but Firehawk was something only available on Formula in those model years.
So you may have a WS6 car with some Firehawk items added, or a Firehawk with some WS6 items added, or a base Trans Am/Formula with some items from one or both added. No way to tell without a look at the SPID sticker (and making sure that the VIN on that sticker matches the VIN on the car itself.)
Based upon his statement "about to buy", the fact that he has one post, let's just hope he stops on back before he goes and makes his purchase. I am not crossing my fingers though. Good chance the owner didn't know what he has and it is a firehawk and is just referring to it as a WS6 (maybe the opposite) so my bet would its not a total fluke. LT1 car though so I sure hope he is not paying much for it either way as I think here in the near future your going to have to start paying people to take them from you lol....
Alright guys, first, thanks for the replies! I went and looked at the car for the first time today and it needs some love. It doesn't have the original motor in it BUT the original does come with the car. It has original 4 speed auto tranny still in it but needs to be rebuilt. I took pics of just about everything so I'll try to figure out how to put them up and let you guys take a look at it and let me know what you think!
^^ Definitely. The photos will be important too, but from what you have described, this car sounds really rough and a car not worth buying unless really inexpensive, plus your ability to repair things yourself. Be careful. Many F-bodies still exist with their original engines intact and no major repairs needed.
Found a build sheet on CompNine.com Some of the RPO codes say "unknown" or "package option 03". Trying to see what they mean but none of the code lists I've found say either. RPO's are......... UA6, UB3, VK3, V75, VK3, VM3, V73, WS6, WS9, W52, W66, ZV1, 1SC, 1SZ, 12B, 12I, 6AB, 7AB, 8HS, 81Q, 81U, 9HS, AAA, AH3, AK5, AR9, AU0, AU3, A31, B35, B84, C49, C60, DG7, DL5, FE2, FE9, GU5, G80, IPB, J65, KG9, K34, LT1, MX0, M30, NF2, NG5, NP5, N66, PBT, QFK, R8T, R8V, STE..... Sorry for the typed list, the photos seem to be having an issue uploading.
Based on breakout numbers there were 524 1996 Formula Ws6 (I'm not a big fan of further break out by options but would assume that HT cars are pretty low).
My personal advice would be don't buy thinking you are getting some rare piece and it's going to be worth something nor worry about having "numbers matching" engine. These will never be that type of car that any of this will mean anything and if that is the only reason your interested I would day steer clear. If the car is something you like and a project that you will enjoy and the price is right (aka dirt cheap) then go for it. Personal experience would suggest unless you plan on keeping it or don't mind taking a few grand for something you have a bunch a money in don't buy an LT1. I have seen many a people struggle to sell very nice rare lt1 cars.
Anyway good luck either way and if you decide to purchase start a restoration thread or something would love to see the car.

This is all correct, and is excellent advice. I agree completely on all counts.
And just to be clear, this is simply a WS6 Formula - not any kind of Firehawk at all.
I can tell you right now that it is 1 of 55 red 96 auto formula ws6. I know this because I looked it up for my buddy back in 09. There was no number break down between hardtop or top so the 55 includes both. His car is identical, even hardtop. I'm interest in what they are selling it for since it needs some tlc. My buddy doesn't think his is worth much even though it's in amazing shape with 80k on the clock. He has had it for 10 years now
One more of my buddies, obviously he upgraded to 98-02 style tail lights, borla cat back, chrome decals, tint, and American racing rebel rims....among other things but that's the visual stuff
Almost forgot, but if memory serves me right they went to SLP for the ws6 package or something like that because I had also found and SLP number which was 2292. Could be wrong on that but it's something along those lines
