2001: A CoreyD TA

I've always wanted to make a thread for my car, but I never had the budget, or frequency of mods to warrant one, in my opinion. After acquiring a new job, I've started to give my car the attention she deserves.

I'll start with a little background on the car and myself to bring it up to speed from where it all began. My name is Corey and I'm currently a student working towards my degree in Industrial Design. I have always had a thing for TAs due to seeing pictures of my dad's old 79, and seeing the "hungry" commercial for the WS6s as a child. This was my first car and was purchased out of Cali with 52k miles on it back in April of 2010. Found the car on autotrader with 3 pictures and hardly a description. It was a one-owner car with the only options being TCS and 3.23s. After a few weeks and 1600 miles, she was at her new home. Sat in it all night and washed it as soon as I got home the next day.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...88183edfb9.jpg

Then after my first time waxing her an F150 backed into me after not seeing me. Apparently this will later become a recurring theme.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...fc4c078463.jpg

After that was all settled, I added an SLP lid, cutout, and Viper 5901. The car stayed relatively stock for the next 3 or 4 years.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...769c94dc4e.jpg

Fast forward to 2014 and I started to add some wheels and bolt-ons, including ZR1s, Speed Engineering LTs, ORY, NGK TR55s, Magnaflow quad tips, and a potz ported TB. Had her tuned by Geoff@EPS shortly after the header install.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...efbb3fc49d.jpg

I had also purchased some Koni 4/4s around 2014, but then my clear coat started to go on my front bumper and my previously repainted passenger quarter panel, before I got around to installing them, so then the paint took a front seat to the suspension. this was also a perfect time to add a WS6 hood.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...008cbc9639.jpg

Fast forward another year to summer of 2016, and I had bought BMR springs, and an adjustable panhard to go with my Konis and replace my aging decarbons.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...46d5e9a7c6.jpg

Since then I have had to roll my fenders, and replace my bald sumitumos with some Nitto 555G2s.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...fd6167ea80.jpg

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...4ee29f3146.jpg

And as is tradition, a truck who did not see me rear ended me. Though I was able to get some new tails out of it!

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...80b3ed0751.jpg

This brings us to 2017 which has been a busy year for her. So far I have replaced the knock sensors, added an ls6 valley cover, 160 thermostat, a UMI front sway bar, projectors and led fogs, Hawk HPS pads, and a Racetronix 255 pump and hot wire kit.

Also strapped her to the rollers for the first time and she layed down 335/352!

Looks nice and a good build thread as well! Keep up the good work.

Had a little exhaust issue this past week. One of my clamps (where the I-pipe and y-pipe meet) caught a manhole cover in my driveway which resulted in the entire catback being pulled from the headers. I bolted it back up, but then the exhaust was hanging strange and rattling, so I brought it to an exhaust shop. First two pictures are before, third and fourth pics are after. No more rattling and I have peace of mind it's not going to fall out :thumb:

Don't mind the dirt!

Nice Build! looking forward to seeing how it does after the HCI install, Are you getting a built trans along with that converter?

Me either! Gonna keep it stock with a cooler for the time being. Once it starts to go I'll probably get the 60e built.

Cocaine_Bird 11-08-2017 12:20 AM

haha that's exactly what I'm doing now!, but I do regret not putting the trans at the same time. Only because if do blow up the trans, all the bad fluid may damage the torque converter. I'm planning on getting a lvl 4 FLT 60e next year.

CoreyD 11-13-2017 01:06 PM

Installed the AutoTrix passenger window fix and a new window motor this past weekend. Crazy how much of a difference it makes, and the install wasn't as bad as I expected either. Still had the original motor in there too, it was getting pretty bad.

Gonna try to get the heads to the machine shop by the end of the week!

LE35TH 11-22-2017 09:00 PM

Hey I know this car.....

ps your tips crooked lmao

CoreyD 11-27-2017 09:06 PM

Lol. I noticed they were unusually crooked today, got under and saw this. Back to the exhaust shop she goes. Should be getting the heads back tomorrow or the next day as well.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...79b17781a7.jpg

These were some extra hangers that a previous shop put on by the pipes exiting the muffler to combat my sagging exhaust.

CoreyD 11-29-2017 12:59 AM

Got the heads back from the machine shop today! Here's a little before and after. 3 angle valve job, new seats, etc.

Looking good bro, can't wait to see the gains.

CoreyD 12-06-2017 11:30 PM

Me either man, I was shooting for an install at the end of the month since I'll be off school and work, but I think I'm gonna push it back. Christmas is hitting me a little harder than expected, and I think I'm wanting an intake before the install now. Might not happen until Easter-ish unfortunately, since that's the next foreseeable time where I'll be home and have an extended period of time off of school and work. Time will tell, but hopefully it's sooner than later! I may just have to take an extended weekend off.

CoreyD 01-04-2018 06:02 PM

Replaced the dash pad with a Firebird Central one I got for Christmas. I had my stock one on there which I had vinyl wrapped about 5-6 years ago, and the heat had definitely taken its toll on it. Not only was the dash as brittle as a pastry, but I was able to crack the vinyl too.

This is probably the only decent before picture I had as I tried to bring as little attention to it as possible. But I love the new dash, it's very strange looking in front of me and not seeing that cracked mess. Texture is a little off, and the defrost vent is thicker/different than stock, but that wouldn't be enough to turn me from one. Knowing that it'll never crack again is great peace of mind.

Took the TA out for a spin and grabbed some pics this weekend. Bought an intake for my car as well. I'll post some pics whenever it gets here!
