I’m looking for RPO CODE WDO cars. Would like to share info. I have a 98 Formula WS6 WDO. Sg2+ZFZz

 

All I can find on the WD0 RPO code is this:

WD0 IDENTIFICATION START OF PLATFORM CONTAINMENT VEHICLES PLATFORM CONTAINMENT VEH(WD0)

CompNine's database seems to indicate that there were 48 coupes and 7 'verts built w/ this RPO in '98. So in this context, I'm not sure what this code means.

What is the information you'd like to share on this RPO?

 

I got curious and looked around a little. Found this on a Corvette forum.

RPO WDO: WDO is the PROCESSING OPTION CODE for a new C5 BUILT FOR THE NEXT MODEL YEAR FOR TESTING and EVALUATION purposes. A WDO C5 is built during the current model year run of C5's, but is a FUTURE Model Year Vehicle. This Option Code is known at the factory as a "CONTAINMENT VEHICLE" CODE. Which is the "IDENTIFICATION" of the START OF A NEW PLATFORM (i.e. NEW MODEL YEAR C5)

 

Interesting info on this code; it's not one I've seen before nor was I aware of what it meant. Great info posted above regarding its definition.

 

I did some reading on this and my assumption is that GM wants to flag these cars as a pool since they are saleable pre-production cars and could have manufacturing procedures and/or parts different from the rest of the fleet.

...These must be a recall nightmare.

 

I was looking at low VIN # ‘98’s looking for 1LE’s, and found this with the same code. All the early cars I checked had it, along with WD1.

 

In the Corvette world, CTF (captured test fleet) cars are pre-production units built well ahead of the start of regular production for use by GM engineers for testing and for press purposes. I strongly suspect that is what the WD0 RPO indicates for Firebirds / F-bodies.

I'd still be interested in the info on the WD0 RPO that the OP claimed to want to share. Short of that, seems like a drive-by post.

WD0 (Platform Containment Vehicle), WD1 (Pilot Vehicle), and VS7 (Non-Saleable Vehicle) are interesting RPO codes. At least one VS7 car was sold, Gold Rush, although it can't be titled or road driven. Most VS7 cars were crushed. At least 4 cars have 1LE and VS7.

These are the build dates I have for WD0, WD1 and VS7 cars. I have some WD0 & WD1 2002's, but don't have build dates for them. Each line is a car/VIN, sorted by make, then the the 5 digit VIN sequence. Most are very low VIN #'s, with a few exceptions.

Great info 98_1LE, thanks. I'm not surprised so few of these were built in the '00 -'02 MYs, as by then I'm pretty sure that the writing of the end of the 4th gens was already on the wall.

 

I apologize for not responded way back when. I was accessing from my phone at the time and did not realize anyone even responded. I wanted to share the info I had gathered and see what others may know. Also wanted to see if any other cars like mine were out there. Are they rare? does it add value? is it different? etc?

 

Feel free to do so. We are all ears (eyes). Would be great to learn more.
