My 2001 was built in Oct 2000 and I ordered it in Oct 2000. I do know that the 2002's started to be built early in 2001 around May or June. GM supposedly takes a few weeks off in the summer. My 2000 was built in August of 99.
My Friends 2002 SS was built around that time in May or June but came in damaged so he bought a Z06 instead........lucky ****** but that's gone in 4 weeks for his 06 C6 Z06 <--even luckier ******!!

First date of production for 2002 F body
I have been working for a few months now trying to establish the order number of production for the 2002 CETA Firebirds.
This is a very slow process, as I have to check the VINs one at a time.
I do know that first CETA Firebird (VIN 100003) was built on 3/13/2001. I didn't check, but serial numbers 1 & 2 could easily be Camaros. I would say that 3/13/2001 would be the start of the Camaros also.
If you want the build date of a specific GM car (1990 & newer), you can email me and I'll send it to you when I get it. Since I do this "on my own spare time" it may take a couple of days.

^^ That's quite a project you are undertaking. This thread is so old it's amazing you found it.
One thing that I always remember when I bought mine way back in the day was that the 2001 model year ended earlier than normal to start those 2002 CETA cars. The production numbers for the '01 Trans Am 'verts were silly low, like my base '01 T/A vert with just 396 made (w/ auto transmission).
Best of luck with everything.

2002 F Body VIN search
Google takes one to almost anywhere. You never know.
Yeah, I think this will take a couple of years to complete. I hope I don't lose my access to the GM data base before I get done.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where to find a legit source for the production number of my CETA and had no luck at all. I did a lot of internet "mining", without any luck. I tried a lot of sites including Pontiac Historical and pontiacregistry.com but had no luck. The folks at pontiacregistry.com said they had other inquiries, but no source of info. They were very cooperative and decided to add a new specialty registry for the CETA cars. They also have one for the "Cammers" and another new one for the Can Ams. It looks like word travels slowly, as mine is the only CETA there.
Sometime us old car guys just do stuff "because we want to know the "real" answer". That's where I'm at. Once I get from the 3 cars produced on day 1 to where more were built, I can begin to connect to some of my known VINs (161 known so far, only 2,230 to go) it will be more "fun".

I researched the first 2 2002 F car VINS. 100001 was an Automatic Convertible, Anniversary Camaro. It was built on Tuesday 3/13/2001. 100002 was a 6 speed Coupe Anniversary Camaro. It was also built on 3/13. Car 2 is noted as "scrapped" - so unsure if this one ever made it to the street. Car 1 is shown with a branded title, one this one could still be on the loose. VINs 3,4,& 6 were CETAs.
I have searched all F car VINS through 5/24 and there were no more CETAs produced in this time period. Once I find where they restarted making these on a regular basis, the fun will begin....but for now going is slow and boring.
