Exclamation T.B.I coversion to T.P.I

anyone want to give me a few answers?

Will my TBI computer run a TPI or do i have to change it?
Are TBI heads the same as TPI heads, can i just bolt on the TPI intake?
Will i have to get a different throttle cable or the one i got will work?

Thanks in advance

No its a thirdgen question, but I can take a stab at it.
You will have to change the computer to a TPI computer, (more injectors to wire up and control, MAF sensor/SD setup)
You can bolt on the TPI intake manifold, but I think the L98(350 TPI)/LB9(305 TPI) heads are better flowing than the L03 (TBI) heads.
I'm not too sure about the throttle cable
Oh and remember you'll need a high pressure fuel pump (TPI style) which is in the tank.
Hope that helps.

some one else told me the tbi computer will run a tpi all you have to do is change the injector harness. he said basically unplug the TBI 2 plug harness and plug in the 9 plug TPI one. Any truth to this?

Hmmm, I'm not sure about that, but I can point you in the right direction.
www.thirdgen.org/techbb2
Do a search on their boards (most likely the Tech/General Engine) I know this has come up many times. I've been on that site since Dec 2000 as 89V6FBIRD. Good resource for thirdgen info.
Good luck!

FWIW, I wouldn't even bother with the TPI setup. I'd go right to a Holley Stealth Ram.

yeah ive had a few friends that were gonna do this on their cars. You dont need to change the heads, though it is a good idea to do that if you wanna get maximum power out of it. You also need to swap the harness. Ive never heard of the TBI computer being able to run a TPI injection system, but who knows, Gm is wierd like that and it may work. Though i doubt it. You will also need to change to a TPI fuel pump. This is what stopped a few of my friends from doing it. Because you need to drop the tank, and install the new pump in there, or cut an access panel in the back deck. Most of them decided to just go carb instead of TPI.

yeah i belive you can run an external pump if it can provide sufficiant fuel pressure. but you may wanna go over to 3rdgen.org and look over there to see what they suggest. I myself have never seen that done, but thats not to say that it wouldnt work. Do some hunting.
