Did any Trans AM WS6's come without polished wheels? IS THIS TA A REAL WS6?
Just purchased a 01 SS 2 days ago. Im looking over my contract and im getting charged more than the original sticker on the car.Anyway if this turns out to be true I'm going to take my SS back and get the Trans Am. Look at the pic people. It has the WS6 emblem in the rear of the car and appears to have the WS6 exhaust, the ram air sticker on the stock airbox but it looks like its missing the ram air stickers on the hood and the wheels look like they are 16 ABS instead of the 17 WS6. WHat do you guys think? Thanks

Airbox looks like ws6 but wheels are different, original owner could have sold them for money. but like 2k2ws6ta said the RPO code is the only way to tell. what year t/a is it?

Thanks learn something new everyday. I always could tell apart the real SS's but so many wannabe WS6's out there i gave up back in 98 trying to tell the real ones from the fakes But I have owned 8 4th gens and those wheels look suspect unless owner sold the real WS6's. I may have to check out the car tommorow and then again since these clowns are trying to rip me off $2,000.00 i might end up in jail

the only way to tell if its real or not is by checkin the door for the RPO code. if i dont say ws.6...than it aint real..plain n simple.

Those wheels are the cast aluminum 16" wheels. I can tell that they're 16" wheels from the 3/4 rear shot photo. The 16" wheels had the ABS center caps. The centercaps on the 16" and 17" wheels weren't interchangeable, so they're definitely 16" wheels if the caps say ABS. I have the same exact wheels on my 'bird, but mine are the chromed version. I believe a cast version of the 17" wheel was offered on some of the LT1 ram air 'birds (though I'm not 100% positive) but they would have still said WS6 on the centercaps. You're either looking at a base Trans Am that's been converted, or a WS6 that's lost it's factory wheels. The hood appears to be a factory version (the "snouts" on the aftermarket versions tend to differ in shape), and it looks to have the actual ram air inlet (it was slightly taller than the base Trans Am). But the hood, air intake, and emblems could have been easily added.

ws6 or not , check all the rpo codes before buying it ! there's a sticky on this site about it , and there's a really good site , its a gm site where you type in all the rpo codes and it'll tell you what you need to know, the ws6 rpo is pretty simple. if those wheels have been changed i would do some serious investigation before you buy it , carfax wont tell you everything, i carfaxed my car before i bought it and it wasent till i noticed an aftermaket radiator that i got suspecious , then i did some research and found the original owner, contacted him , found out my car had basically been totaled, left the lot as a ws6 , nothing ws6 about it anymore, the guy hit a deer doing 80 or so and got half the parts off another car and ordered the rest and fixed it on the dl, and the first indication of this was the wheels , if my dumbass had looked at the wheels and relized they were chrome 16" trans am wheels, i wouldve known , but im glad i didnt cos i would have never bought my car, and i dont know what the dude did but for a car that had been practically totaled and brought back to stock , she sure does haul, but im a lucky one, usually in these cases the car turns out to be a pos

All 98-up WS6s came with polished 17" wheels.
The only exception to this would be the Hurst T/As which came with gold painted 17" wheels, and the 30th Anniversary which came with blue tinted 17" wheels (just like the polished 17" on the regular WS6s).
However, prior to '98 you could get LT1 WS6s with painted silver 17" wheels, and the 25th Anniversary model had white painted 17" wheels.
