Replacing the shifter ... I have a 326 with the "rare" shifter on the column. The people who had the car before me didn't take very good care of it. I want to replace the entire column mess. Already have a new steering wheel and a column cover on order, but need the actual shifter, knob, PRNDL, etc. SO far every vendor catalog I've checked ignores the shifter on the column in a 1967 Firebird. Is there some obscure vendor who carries this? The shifter knob isn't even original and has no threads, so they stuck it on with duct tape. |
Fan shroud clips There are clips at the bottom of the shroud that hold it in place on each side, where the shroud slides in and is held in place. I'm missing one and can't find a vendor who carries these. Any ideas where I can find one? It's probably an inch square, metal, shaped like an N only with rounded corners and a little piece sticking out to sort of grab onto the shroud. I took the part into my favorite auto parts store (not a chain) and he usually has everything, but said he doesn't have anything similar or anything he can adapt to use. |
change it to a console floor shift then you can add a tilt too. You may get lucky as most people just about give away column shift steering columns in a bucket seat car. F bodys were pretty uncommon. I have an even rarer one a 67 Tempest Sprint with tilt column shift. I know I have the correct shift lever with the tapered black knob somewhere. For the shift indicator try some of the places that sell 67-72 Chevy truck parts. Thats were I found my PRNDSL indicator. |
