Default Low/Check Coolant Light

My check coolant light is on on my '99 trans am, i checked the coolant level and the radiator and there is plenty coolant in there.

is it possible that the coolant sensor could be bad?

if so could my engine be running in overheated mode while the coolant light is on?

Don't know if there is much difference from my LT1 97' but the same thing happened after some de-modding. There is no leak, has an aftermarket gauge that shows it isn't overheating (160* stat) and a tune.
Part of the demodding was switching to a smaller converter so I think some of the wiring was knocked loose - again too lazy to check since it has no leak and never rose over 174* on in-city errand running stop light madness.

If you know someone that can run a scan for you then start there. You probably don't have a leak but a bad sensor or loose wires.

Thats another thing, if my engine was in overheated mode would the gauges indicate that it was running at a high temp? the gauge gets up to 210 and after about 5 minutes the check coolant light comes on

Is that a good/safe idea to just completely unplug your sensor?

I actually went to a local garage today and i spoke with the mechanic, apparently its common for f-body coolant sensors to fail, he quoted me $75 for parts and labor to replace it

did you check the RADIATOR or the reservoir?

checking the radiator will do you little good. the sensor isn't in the radiator, and yes Z28s (along with basically every other GM vehicle has one)

oh// and i'd like to add that dexcool sucks. usually the sensor gets eaten by the dexcool. sometimes it's just crudded up with white crap and can be cleaned off.

Same problem(light on). NAPA has a replacement sensor that is $50 and looks simple to replace. Pass side 6 inch down.
