Default rear spoiler help

Im fixing to pull the trigger on this car http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...00&cardist=268 . I've never seen a T/A with that spoiler before and I don't really like it. Can it be changed out to the higher one? I cant tell.

that's a stock firbird&Formula spoiler/ hatch. trans am spoilers are bolted on and formulas are solid. to get a higher trans am spoiler, you'll have to get a whole other hatch

Yep, it was factory for a few years. I'm not sure exactly when the Trans Am coupes weren't offered with the low-level spoiler anymore (all convertibles used them). I think it might have been a tie-in with the "Trans Am GT"somehow, but don't quote me on that one...

The low spoiler was standard on the 95 Trans Am, with the "Up-Spoiler" available as an option. I believe the "Up-Spoiler" (as it was called in the dealer brochure) was made standard on the Trans Am in 1996.

From those pictures, it looks as if the guy swapped the high rise hatch with someone who had the flush mount spoiler. The hatch looks to be a shade brighter, and it isn't adjusted properly, there is a huge gap on the passenger side. It's not uncommon for people to do this to make some extra cash before selling the car, with hopes that the buyer will not notice. You can probably talk him down a bit more if this turns out to be true.

Actually, 1995 was the year that the high rise spoiler was standard on all Trans Am's. In 1993 and 1994, the high rise spoiler was an option. In 1994, the option was included with the Trans Am GT package, which was dropped the next year.

Also from looking at the white Trans Am, if you'll notice the passenger side skirt, just in front of the rear tire in picture 2, the back half is missing/broken off (compare to picture 5 to see what I mean). In picture 5, just under the gas cap, the rear bumper doesn't seem to be mounted properly, it almost seems to be overlapping on top of the rear quarter panel, and the drivers side exhaust is hanging lower than the passenger side. Could be signs of a rear end collision. If you really interested in the car, I would advise a Carfax, and for you to personally go inspect the car for yourself if you already haven't. If the car was in an accident in the rear end, that would also help explain the hatch, since you can pick that style up relatively cheap. Comparing the White one to the Black one, I would say your best bet is going with the black one. Looks to be a real clean car compared to that white one. But who knows. The pictures aren't the greatest, so I could be mistaking on some of the speculations.

Thats a good price on that car. I wouldnt let a spoiler hold me up. You can always change that out.

ok guys im going to pick up the black one friday!! someting seems fishy about the white one. there are a few things that lead me to believe there are things being with held about the car and its past. anyway, the black one is super clean and the dude selling it is really cool he just bought a new truck and needs it gone. he's taking $3600 for it!! i'd say i got a good deal! I cant wait to get it and start modding!!!

Don't let that black T/A get away for that price. Your gonna like your A4 whenever you get to the tracks. I always had them badass launches whenever I had my A4. Just get some 3.73s, a nice tune, CAI, long tube headers, x-pipe with true duals dumped.. Trust me, You'll be running some damn good times. My previous LT1 T/A had that exact set-up and I was running 13.1-13.3 in the 1/4 mile. I tried looking for my time slips but can't seem to find them.

awesome man thats the kind of time im looking for. I'll probably swap my N20 kit off my truck and do a small squirt to put me in a 12 sec car for under $6000 total including the cost of the car.

I know 1993-94 firebird, formula, and T/A (non GT, '94 only) had that low spolier, also '97 T/A vert had it, a buddy had a 1997 T/A vert and it had that spoiler on it, but my '94 T/A GT has the high rise wing like the LS-1 T/A's. I think all 4th gen firebirds have the low wing but not shure. Both him and I hate that low wing, I would say that changing the hatch would solve that problem.

Yeah, you will probably run a little quicker if you get some drag radials or slicks. I was on street tires running those times. I was on 315 Sumitomo's spinning first and a little bit of second. I can't wait to run my LS1 FireHawk. Wanna see what times it should be putting down!
