Where do I run the VIN number?
I'm trying to buy a '78 T/A that i found and I want to run the VIN on it to see what it came with. It has a 400 in it but when I was looking at it today, I fount that it's a '71 400 block, so it's not original. I just want to know what it came with so i know what the car's worth. Is there a website somewhere I can run the vin to find out what it came with and what color it was?

Off the top of my head the Vin should read 2W87(Z)8N if it's a Trans Am with a Pontiac 400 And a (K) if it was an Olds 403 equipped car.
2 for Pontiac
W for Firebird Trans Am (T) for Firebirrd (U) for Esprit (V) for Formula
87 for 2 door coupe
Z for engine (Pontiac 400)
8 for model year
N for Norwood Ohio assembly plant
100000 Body sequence number
Color and interior options will be on the cowl dataplate located on the cowl under the hood in front of the Vin. If it's a Trans Am it should have a WS4 stamped on that plate.
Go to transamcountry.com those guys should be able to help you further
Hope this helps
