Default G8 ST - Holden Ute Import Who's Interested?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm in the middle of organising importing the G8 ST/Holden Ute to USA.

The vehicle will be converted to Left Hand Drive and will meet all federal requirements.
Same as the G8 Sedan already does.

It will be hard to keep to Manufacturer prices and I need to see if it's feasable.

I have a few questions.

1) The G8 ST would be more than likely be imported as a Holden SS Ute. Still with the holden front clip, would this be a problem?

2)What price would you be willing to pay for one of these?

I will post on various forums to get feed back and do a feasablilty on this.

Let me know your thoughts.

Lindsey

No more a problem than importing a Pagani Zonda, or any other foreign car to America. Holden isn't a domestic brand, but that doesn't mean it's illegal to drive. lol

What I mean by front clip is the facade/nose cone treatment, it wouldn't have the Pontiac grill etc. but the Holden grill.

So I'm asking would having the Holden appearance be a deterant to buying it rather than looking like the Pontiac?

I actually think the Holden nose might be an advantage. Props if you can pull this off!

I think I read somewhere that the Holden front end doesn't meet US crash specs.

I'm sure that you read a rumour or such.
The holden clip is only a facade, underneath is exactly the same as the G8. The only reason it was changed was to be inline with Pontiacs "family".

Are you sure the bumper reinforcement bar is the same?

I love the Utes, sucks that they axed the ST. Funny how there's G8 owners who are doing a Holden conversion, but people are talking about importing Utes and doing a G8 conversion.....none the less, still wouldn't mind seeing a Ute/Faux-ST stateside.

Yes it is the same. Just as it was on the GTOs as well.

If I imported a Ute it would recieve Chevrolet badging just as the Aussies do to it at home. The car is really made to be a Chevy.

I was actually on google and found this thread. Though its a bit old, did you ever find out about importing this? If you decided not to, I may do so independently and wanted to know how you were going about this. If you would mind posting more in depth of how to or maybe private message me?

Especially getting them to convert the vehicle to left hand drive for you. I was looking at the Maloo with the 6.2 and 6 speed auto.

Add one to the interested-in-seeing-where-this-goes column.

When i stayed in Australia i really liked those cars too. I've been looking around about importing them to the Netherlands. I mailed Holden about it but it seems that you don't have any support from Holden in a foreign country, meaning you have to do all the servicing your own on such a complicated/advanced car.

Another question to the TS; how did you want to convert the car to left hand side driving? I cant imagine Holden is every going to make left hand side drivable dashboard panels? And i also cant imagine that the car is prepared to be converted i.e. the engine block might be in the way of the steering column? If you have a solution to all those questions i would be graceful to hear it.

that would be cool to import. I like the Holden front much better.I am going to have to agree with George the bumpers are different for U.S. crash standards

I think in most countries its legal to drive right hand side, but when overtaking it may be quite problematic. Because you can't see what's coming on the other lane when there's a car in front of you. And because of the 360HP or something you've got in those cars, overtaking will become a daily thing.

Having the steering wheel build to the left hand side is a must have imo.

Have you guys even researched the hurdles you have to overcome to import a car and more importantly register/title it in the US?

You raise an extremely valid point. It has been stated in this forum that the Holden comes in Aussieland with a NAV unit that doesn't comply to US standards as well as the bumper on the front of the car.

Also, if the AU version of this car doesn't have a sticker on the chassis that states that the vehicle meets US standards that might mean a lot of additional leg work.

All aside from the argument if you can even have right hand drive in the USA for reasons other than postal service or whatever....

I could imagine duties and taxes would be a nice gift to Uncle Sam.
