Default How much more noise does a CAI make?

My wife bought a '09 GT a few weeks ago. Its a fun car. My 14 and 18 year old boys fit well in the back seat (better than her '95 Formula we just sold). How much does the air noise change with a CAI. My wife likes the quietness. She does like more power. Keith

It will be louder up front in the engine bay and amazingly so also through the exhaust a touch. There are 3 baffles in the intake to quiet down the incoming airflow that will be done away with and also the airfilter will no longer be exposed.

Thanks for the information. This is my first LS motor. I'm learning the hard way on my 18 year old sons 5.3 project in his '77 chevy standard cab dually thats got a full air bagged suspension. Hes got a 5.3 with the full Fast retro-fit kit. Hes been working hard and saving his money. He's going to change his valve springs today to match his Comp Cam. Thanks Keith

I have the Volant CAI and it's pretty quiet. I changed the air filter to an Amsoil paper filter and it pulls much harder now and isn't any louder.

Rotofab is louder than vararam until wot, then the vararam takes over.

Also, just my two cents, the vararam looks more own...less ricer.

Hardly noticeable until WOT. I do hear a whistle from time to time with the windows down. (Rotofab) I noticed no other gains. No MPG increase or seat of the pants feel. Add it with a tune and I'd bet its worth the $300.

I don't see how, it leaves a big ugly hole in your engine compartment.

I put a Rotofab CAI on my G8 and noticed a difference right away (and this was before I did headers & exhaust.)

During normal driving there is not much of a noise difference. But when you step on it, you definitely hear a louder bark under the hood.

I believe Maryland Speed has a special sale going on right now for a Rotofab CAI / Mail order tune package. As long as you're not planning on adding headers anytime soon, this combo will definitely give a good "seat of the pants" performance difference.

A good tune will also greatly improve how the transmission shifts. I never realized how crappy the stock transmission tune was until I brought my car to get dyno tuned. It's a night and day difference.
