Default LS3 to G8 WHATS REALLY IN VOLVED

What is really involved switching a L76 to a LS3 in a G8? I want a engine with performance and a warranty

I plan to do this in mine next winter with just a short block though since thats the only real difference. It should just need a GXP re-flash on the engine parameters if you stay all stock or just tune the stock tables. Other than being a 6.2L with a different cam and no DoD its the same engine.

Why waste the money? Just do a dod delete and bigger cam for $1500 with your stock engine and have more power and be more reliable.

1500 for a cam swap, that seems excessive. I plan to do a 6.2L bottom end plus a small-ish cam (230/235) all for about $2500. My L76 has 165k on it and by next winter should have at least 200k, so it'll be time for a rebuild anyway imo. Aftermarket cams and springs are in no way more reliable than stock stuff. Ive never seen a big aftermarket cam and springs go 165k miles before

Add up the little parts... for a L76 cam swap: DoD delete kit (lifters, trays, valley cover, gaskets, cam pulley, chain, damper, etc), ARP head bolts, head gaskets, cam, valve springs, pushrods, etc...

You think stock parts are reliable... I can show you stacks of OEM parts that didn't even make 50k miles before failing. Not everyone is lucky to get that much mileage out of stock stuff. But for the lucky ones 200k is just starting to be good for boost! We've supercharged and turbocharged multiple 150k mile engines and beat the crap out of them for a few more years before component failure, and didn't complain about it one bit!

No issues doing a swap to a ls3 in a g8.

Should bolt right up just need some tuning help and swap some of the G8 specific parts.

I think it's 6-8K for a (430hp) LS3 from jegs/summit and there is probably better deals for a little more hp if you want to go that route. Don't do the higher HP GM LS3 as they have aggressive cams and won't work well with the factory converter.

Guess Im used to good ole $800 Fbody cam swaps. This does make doing an "LS3" swap more cost effective though as it already has the cam swap parts. I was unaware you had to swap the valley cover though, thanks for that info! That's probably the only thing I don't have laying around. A converter should definitely come before engine swap, if at all possible, imo.

Thanks DS that seems to be the best route for me with a warranty for my daily driver
