Default Lots of miles?

I'm looking to purchase a g8, i've wanted one for the longest. I know the miles on these are quite high now? Is that something I should be worried about? I know the LCA are quite the issue, but I'm quite afraid of purchasing a car with 100k+ miles. Or would it be wiser to opt for the more expensive chevy ss? I want another v8 toy but I want opinions if you all dont mind.

My G8 GXP is just shy of 100k (around 93k) and still looks and feels like new to me. No rattles or pops from the suspension, just the occasional creak from the interior panels on bumpy roads. I'm the second owner and bought it last August at 83,000 miles. All I've done to it so far is change the oil and it ran two track days at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park last year.

Aside from the nearly $10k price difference at the time between this G8 GXP and a 2014 SS I looked at, I opted for the G8 because I'm still a little partial to good ol' Pontiac. I like the sharper edges of the G8 over the rounded corners of the SS. With the same powertrain in both cars (though Wikipedia rates the G8 GXP at 415HP / 415TQ and the SS at 408 HP / 420TQ), I didn't see $10,000 worth of upgrades in the SS.

Thank you so much for your reply ! How much did u buy it for if u donít mind me asking? I really wanted a g8 but itís quite hard to justify the price of almost 20k for a get, still almost 30k for a gxp when they have that many miles still.

I have 212K miles on mine. I did a DOD delete long ago before it became a problem, but the things that have failed on mine are:

- alternator, twice (first at 90K, second at 205K)
- radiator (180K)
- front LCAs, twice (first set at 105K, second at 150K)
- starter (120K)
- driver side engine mount (150K)
- gas cap (190K)

Everything else replaced was either performance oriented or maintenance (tires, brakes, bulbs, shocks/struts, etc) related. The car is VERY easy to work on, and while most parts are relatively inexpensive, you won't find them in stock at most dealers or parts stores.

Yeah I'm very mechanically inclined, I used to work with my ls4 engine quite a bit. I know used cars are a hit and miss but it seems g8s are pretty solid from what I've been reading. If im not mistaken they are able to adapt to the 5th gen parts as well right? I'm sure the aftermarket is still booming with the g8 as well?

Engine, Trans and rear end are 5th gen Camaro equivalents. Body pieces and interior bits are from Holden so you will need to find a Holden parts dealer like Crazy Pauls or do a junkyard search. Some times common maintenance pieces like wiper blades are a PIA to source. Rock Auto will be your friend.

I would not say the aftermarket is "booming" for G8's. Places' like Maryland Speed and BMR sells some stuff but it will never be like a Camaro or Mustang. They only made the G8 for two years and the production run was somewhere in the 20k. If you want a G8 GXP they only made 1829 of them in 2009. Between 30-40 of them have been totaled so....

They are good cars and the mechanical pieces are pretty reliable. The interior's tend to hold up better than the GTO's but they have their annoying problems like all cars do as they age.

AVOID Maryland Speed at all costs.

Keep in mind that while the G8 was a limited run, the platform was not. Many 2011+ Caprice and some SS sedan parts (OEM and aftermarket) are interchangeable.

There is a smoking deal on a silver A6 GXP on LSX parts for sale group. I think its in MO. Not only is it a GXP but it has kooks headers/Exhaust, healthy cam, yank, and some other good bits @150k miles asking $16k

LA as in the state, not the city. Is the one you found a GXP? Any mods? Where are you located and how far are you willing to travel is the real question I guess

I paid $25k for my 2009.5 GXP at a Chevy dealer in Dallas. (1 of only 843 manual transmission GXP's out of all 38,404 G8's produced.)
